THANK YOU

to everyone who came out this past Saturday afternoon for the Artist Talk with Harold Wortsman.

We had a full house. And a great chat with this superb, widely collected New York sculptor and printmaker.

Artist Winsom Winsom came by afterwards and pretty much charmed Harold off his feet.

My thanks to artist Donald Lee for the first photo in this series.

ARTIST TALK

Join us on Saturday, October 3 at 2pm for an ARTIST TALK with New York sculptor and printmaker Harold Wortsman.

Primarily recognized for his sculptural work in clay, Wortsman maintains a rigorous works-on-paper practice that both informs and is informed by his dimensional sculpture.

The prints on view are produced through hand-tooled aluminum intaglio, many printed with master printer Kathy Caraccio.

Making their public debut, a series of large silkscreen monotypes originally conceived in the 1990s alongside late master printer Sheila Marbain. Also collected by the New York Public Library Print Collection, these works are being exhibited for the first time.

Harold Wortsman is a sculptor and printmaker based in Brooklyn, New York. His work is held in major public, private, and university collections across North America and Europe, including The Library of Congress (Washington, D.C.), Yale University, The New York Public Library Print Collection, The New-York Historical Society, and the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum Print Archive.

OPENS THURS SEPT 10

New York sculptor and printmaker Harold Wortsman and I go back several years, starting with these first photos from 2019 @440gallery in Brooklyn.

So it's a thrill and an honour to have Harold here in Toronto for a show of his works on paper.

Join us for the Opening Reception on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 from 6-8pm. The artist will be present.

Intaglio prints, monotypes, drawings and artist books will be on view.

As well, a series of small torn-paper artworks known informally as the Japanese Collages will be presented.

See the middle slide in this post.

In 2024, after spending some days in the clay village of Bizen, Wortsman visited the main paper store in Kyoto and came away with a thin black paper, “perfect for cutting, tearing and gluing.”

Complementing the intaglio prints, the gallery will debut a newly published artist’s book created exclusively for this exhibition in a limited, signed edition of 30. The volume brings together drawings originally rendered in oil pastel and graphite, underscoring the artist’s intuitive handling of texture, weight, and line.
