A present for my daughter’s fourth birthday last month.

Chairs aren’t easy, but the smaller dimensions and relaxed constraints allowed for quite an expressive design. The oversized spheres at the ends are functional and fun.
Designing a chair for a child has very different constraints to designing one for an adult. For example, a standard seat height of 450mm will usually allow an adult to put their feet on the floor but a child will need a footrest.
An ergonomic back angle is less important when this sitter is going to be leaning over their plate for ten minutes and then jumping down as soon as they’re finished making a mess.
The seat is woven with seagrass, a natural fibre that’s got a bit more variation in colour and texture than paper cord and therefore a lot more forgiving of my weaving skills, and will hopefully camouflage the inevitable food and paint spills to come!
