“Living in the spirit of Kaizen”🌍 💨 💧 🔥 🟦🟦🟦🟦🟦
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Congrats to the little man on leveling up today. 👊🏽

I haven’t been training on the mats for months because of an injury, but today I stepped back on—not for myself, but to be there beside him.

As @coachplifestyle said, life isn’t always going to be fair. And sometimes the best way we can teach our kids resilience is by showing them what it looks like to step into discomfort anyway.

Tonight we lay on the dock with the world completely quiet, looking up at a sky that felt impossibly full of stars.

I pointed up and told the kids:

“The stars represent everything that is possible. Everything between my fingertips and those stars is ours to reach for.”

The lesson wasn’t really about the stars.

It was about helping them believe that possibility isn’t somewhere far away. It’s built in the space between where we are today and who we’re willing to become.

Some moments don’t need a classroom. They just need a dock, a night sky, and a conversation you’ll never forget.

✨ Reach for what feels impossible.

Just a kayak, a trail, and leading these two young men…

Some of life’s greatest lessons are caught, not taught.

Yday I was training in the gym and getting frustrated with my recovery.

My back. The sciatica. The limitations.

I caught myself thinking…

What’s the point of showing up if I can’t train the way I want to?

Then another thought came.

What would I look like if I stopped showing up altogether?

If I started drinking again.
Stopped caring about sleep.
Ate like shit.
Stopped meditating, breathing, journaling.

No sauna. No cold plunge.

No forests. No mountains. No climbing.

No longer protecting my peace from the noise and the things that don’t serve me.

I actually had a hard time visualizing that version of myself.

So I asked AI to show me.

And strangely, seeing him reminded me of something:

Not every season is about becoming more.
Sometimes the work is simply refusing to become less.

Maybe right now I can’t train the way I want to.

But I can still show up.

And today, that’s enough.

There’s something about cutting the grass—the body stays busy, the mind stops trying, and creativity finds its own way in. 🌱#Bredah by @harryjayy

Caught up with my boy of over 20 years @bakerboy_1 at his @bakersjerkhouse in Brampton. @bakerboy_1 puts so much love and passion into his food…absolutely the number one Jerk chicken spot in Ontario imo. The food was a hit amongst all the family especially some who’d never experienced Jamaican food before #hardwork #passion #jerkchicken #bakersjerk by @harryjayy

This morning, while having my coffee, I picked up an old journal that happened to be sitting nearby.

One entry from January 2024 made me pause.

It mentioned research by Professor Robert Emmons showing that writing down 5 things you’re grateful for once a week for 10 weeks can increase happiness by 25%. It also noted that grateful people tend to sleep longer and exercise 33% more.

The research is interesting.

But the reminder I needed today was much simpler:

“Grateful people don’t take things for granted… they receive them as granted.”

Maybe the real value of a journal isn’t recording our past.

Maybe it’s leaving quiet reminders for a future version of ourselves.

There she is…. Island Peak (6,189m).

For days, we’d hiked through the Khumbu Valley, crossing suspension bridges, climbing endless trails, and battling the altitude. Then, for the first time, we saw her!

Our mountain.

In that moment, the excitement disappeared for a second and reality kicked in. The challenge we’d trained months for was standing right in front of us.

She looked beautiful.
She looked intimidating.
She looked impossible.

But that’s the thing about mountains, they don’t ask if you’re ready. They simply wait.

The summit was still days away, but this was the moment the climb truly began.

🚶🏽‍♂️💥 Here comes the Hotstepper…

Happy 40th Birthday to the big man, @sattontherise! 🏔️🔥

40 years young and still climbing higher—literally and figuratively. Wishing you more life, more blessings, more mountains, and more moments that remind you why you keep pushing forward.

Keep rising. Keep shining. Keep inspiring. The world needs more men willing to lead from the front, look after their people, and remind us that strength isn’t just built in the gym or on a mountain—it’s built in the mind and in the heart.

Here’s to many more adventures, more laughs, and a few more thin-air conversations above the clouds. Love you, bredah. Happy 40th! 👊🏽❤️

This was me last year…

Strong. Focused. In the mountains.

I had climbed back to the strongest version of myself and pushed a limit I didn’t even know was possible.

My plan was to ride that momentum into 2026.

But this year has started rough.

My mind has one intention…
but my body has another.

And as much as I don’t like admitting it, this season is asking something different from me.

Not just to rebuild —
but to reassess my relationship with training, lifting, jiu-jitsu, and chasing summits.

In meditation, the word that keeps coming up is obstacles.

Some obstacles are meant to be pushed through.
They sharpen you. Strengthen you. Reveal what you’re made of.

But other obstacles are not walls.
They are redirections.

They are the universe asking you to pause, listen, and realign with your true path.

The hard part is knowing which obstacle is which.

And maybe the answer isn’t found by forcing harder.

Maybe it’s found through interoception —
learning to listen to the inner dialogue of the body.

Because sometimes the body knows the truth before the mind is ready to accept it.

This season, I’m still climbing.

Just differently.

So your boy’s doing a thing tonight…

Definitely outside my comfort zone, but probably exactly where I need to be.

Grateful for the opportunity to share, connect, and be part of a night built around music, story, and transformation.

Tonight at Hugh’s Room, Toronto

I recently read The Long Ascent: From Trauma to the Summit by Thomas Comeau @jtc_travels

Tom is a friend, mentor, and someone I had the privilege of summiting Island Peak with in Nepal last year. Having spent time with him in the mountains, I was curious to better understand the man whose leadership helped guide me through one of the most meaningful climbs of my life.

I suspected there would be parts of Tom’s story in this book that he had never spoken about in person.

I was right.

This is not a book trying to convince you to climb a mountain. It is not simply a book about policing either. Although both policing and the mountains form the backdrop, this is really a book about trauma, service, endurance, silence, awareness, and healing.

One line that stayed with me was:

“Experience makes you effective, but it does not make you invulnerable…”

That line hit me hard.

It made me reflect on my own experiences and recognize the moments where I probably should have felt something, but simply did not. Not because I was unaffected, but because not feeling had become familiar.

True to Tom’s character, this book is not preachy. It is not a self-help manual. It reads more like sitting with a good friend over a latte, with the mountains in the background, and simply listening.

I highly recommend it — not only for first responders, but for their families, friends, and anyone trying to understand what those who serve may quietly carry. #islandpeak #bredah #mountainsandmatts by @harryjayy
