Standing at 634 metres, the Tokyo Skytree, located in Sumida City, Tokyo, is the third-tallest structure in the world, behind the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur. Since opening in May 2012, it has become one of Japan’s most recognisable landmarks, attracting millions of visitors each year with its distinctive silhouette and panoramic observation decks. Even its name was chosen by the public, with “Tokyo Skytree” receiving around 33,000 votes in a nationwide poll of more than 110,000 ballots. Its height of 634 metres was selected because the numbers can be read as “Musashi” in Japanese, the historical name of the region where Tokyo stands today. by @harrysinclairphotography

Inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, the Rotunda of Mosta is an iconic Maltese landmark designed by the architect Giorgio Grognet de Vassé. Also known as the Sanctuary Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady, the church was constructed between 1833 and 1860 and is renowned for its vast circular dome, which is considered one of the largest unsupported domes in the world. Rich in history, the church is also known for the remarkable event of 1942 when a German bomb pierced the dome during a World War II air raid but failed to explode while hundreds of people were attending Mass, an incident widely regarded as a miracle by locals. Just two kilometres off the coast of Fuerteventura lies the uninhabited Isla de Lobos, a small volcanic islet situated in the Canary Islands covering approximately 4.5 km². It is a protected nature reserve, with its highest point at 127 metres above sea level on the rim of its extinct volcano, La Caldera. The island is accessible via a short ferry ride from Corralejo, and day visitors are welcome, though access is regulated: since 2019, visitors are required to obtain a permit to help control numbers and protect its delicate ecosystems. The Canary Islands are often affected by the calima, a weather phenomenon in which hot, dust-laden winds blow in from the Sahara Desert, reducing visibility and tinting the sky in hazy yellow or orange tones. Situated in the Julian Alps of northwestern Slovenia, Lake Bled was shaped over 15,000 years ago when the Bohinj glacier carved out a tectonic basin that later filled with water, also forming Slovenia’s only naturally occurring island. Bled Island is home to several historic buildings, including the Church of the Assumption, which dates back to the 17th century. The existing Baroque structure of the church largely stems from restorations carried out following earthquake damage in the late 1600s, with much of its form preserved since then. Overlooking the lake from a steep cliff is Bled Castle, the country’s oldest, first mentioned in 1011 in a deed by Emperor Henry II. Have you been to Lake Bled? 🇸🇮 by @harrysinclairphotography

Serving the redeveloped Docklands area of London and providing a direct connection between London’s two major financial districts, Canary Wharf and the City of London, the DLR is a driverless train network that serves 45 stations across East and South East London. Opened in 1987, it was one of the first automated transit systems in the world, designed to provide a reliable and efficient service in a rapidly growing urban area. Formed through extensive erosion of volcanic rock over thousands of years, Arco de las Peñitas is nestled amidst the rugged cliffs and unique geological formations on the western part of Fuerteventura. Located within the Parque Rural de Betancuria, a protected natural area, it is accessible via scenic hiking trails that offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape. In 2009, UNESCO declared the island and its marine habitat a Biosphere Reserve, recognising its exceptional biodiversity and unique ecosystems. Located on the northwest coast of Corfu, Porto Timoni is renowned for its unique formation. The picturesque double bay is only accessible by boat or by hiking from the small traditional village of Afionas. Like much of the Ionian Islands landscapes, Porto Timoni was formed over thousands of years through natural geological processes. Considered to be the world’s most linguistically diverse city, there are more than 800 languages spoken in New York City alone. It lies where the Hudson River meets the Atlantic Ocean and is divided into five boroughs - Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, the Bronx and the most famous of all, Manhattan. South of 14th Street, Lower Manhattan is the southernmost part of the borough and the central hub for business, culture, and government in New York City.
