Unstable dialogue between film and feeling. Souped negatives, portraits of internal escapists, imagined dreamscapes. Surrealistic dreamscapes I wish would feel. Nostalgic. But my subconscious doesn’t glitter. It stains.

My solo exhibition “Frameless Identities” at @fotogalerie_objektief is almost here ✨

“What remains without a frame”, the closing chapter of my first solo exhibition “finding my frame”, my temporary happily ever after.

I once believed I had to choose one version of myself, something consistent, coherent, contained. But I am none of those things. And neither is my work. These analog works are created through the embrace of chance, by using methods as filmsouping, multiple exposure and working without a frame.

Hartenjager, frameless identities is an exploration of the undefined. The spaces in-between. The moments where control slips and meaning reveals itself.

Just fragments of a self,
depicted by characters of hidden identities,
identities I wrote off as made-up, escapised fairytales

Holding up a mirror of me

Much of my work once felt like fiction. Dreamscapes I thought were separate from me.
But now, in reflection, I see: every piece has always been a part of me.

Even when I wasn’t ready to claim it

This exhibition is not about resolution. It’s about recognition. Not about answers, but glimpses. Of emotion. Of memory. Of imagined truths that might have always been real.
