Tomorrow sees the final edition in a series of six word-full, creativity-crammed, connection-feeding glorious Fridays! 🤩🥳

I will be at @themansiontotnes from 9.30 - 12.30, writing bespoke poems in three minutes, with my trusty typewriter, and in the afternoon I’ll run a writing workshop from 2pm - 3.30pm at @totneslibraryofficial !

And the fun continues!! On Saturday afternoon, I am also running a writing workshop at Buckfastleigh Library! 2pm - 3.30pm, all welcome!

Huge thanks to The Mansion, and to both libraries for their incredible enthusiasm, support and generosity. I’ve met so many wonderful people, and felt the joy of connecting and creating in community, which of course, I intend to continue at The Poetry Well!! Opening on 7th August for a two day launch, about which, more very soon!!

I very much look forward to writing for and/or with you, tomorrow, Saturday...and beyond!!!

Incitement to wild excitement!!! 🤩🤩 In just 24 sleeps...

The Poetry Pop up is going...permanent!!! 🥳🥳 Introducing you to...🥰🥰

The Poetry Well ✨

Yes! It’s real! It’s happening, and soon. There is soooo much to do, but we are going to have a Poetry Bookshop and general all things poetry and poets hub - on Totnes High Street! Right next to the dreamily delicious Delphini’s ice-cream shop!

The magic has been ‘cooking’ for at least a month, and there are already many fabulous collaborations in the works. I will tell you more later, but for now, what you need to know is:

It’s at 5a High Street, which is currently Moonstone Hare (where there are some great bargains to be had right now by the way, do go check out the closing down sale!)

I will begin moving in on Monday 3rd August (do come say an unofficial pre-grand-opening hello!)

We will have a fabulous two day launch across the Friday and Saturday 7th and 8th of August (put those dates in your diary!) - details TBC

There will be poetry books for sale! Books by local poets, second hand poetry books, and books from small poetry presses.

There will be workshops!

There will be readings, talks, gatherings!

There will be bespoke poems from me and my typewriters! Yes, plural! Picked up a ‘new to me’ one yesterday, here it Totnes, which is already experience in typing poetry apparently - what synchronicity!

This fantastic event is happening at 4pm on Sunday at @bookbag.shop ! I had my ticket and was looking forward to it, Shagufta is a fabulous poet and performer, but now I will be away with family the whole weekend, so - anyone want a FREE ticket? Tickets include a free poetry book of the writer’s work and free refreshments.

I’m so sorry not to be there. These brilliant live events are such a gift, and I hope those who attend enjoy! I look forward to hearing all about it!

It’s nearly Friday! 🥳🤩❤

Yes, tomorrow is another opportunity for you to get a unique, speedily typed personal poem, for yourself, someone special, an upcoming important occasion - the choice is yours! Come find me at The Mansion of Totnes @themansiontotnes between 9.30 and 12.30.

Someone asked me recently, “Why do you do this?” It was sincere, direct, and it made me think. I’d sum it up in three key reasons.

I love doing it! It brings out the best in me, and generates a magic and joy unlike anything else I’ve expereinced.

Humanity fascinates me, and I fall in love with ‘us’ again and again, every time I connect with others in this way.

Because listening, really listening, is an art, one I love to practise. It is also, in my experience, very powerful in it’s potential to bring connection and insight in a very short space of time...the time it takes to have a brief conversation about what’s up and what really matters, and then typing out a poem to capture that.

When I shared these reasons, the young man in question nodded, “I certainly feel heard.”

However, I won’t be doing ALL the writing tomorrow! You can too! Come join me in Totnes Library @totneslibraryofficial for another creative writing workshop, 2pm - 3,30pm. All are welcome, no experience necessary. WHy do I offer workshops? Actually, it’s very similar to the on the spot poems! But the extra joy is in seeing people surprise themselves with their own capacity, their own creative magic, and offering the tools and inspiration for people to have a place to start, if they want to carry on writing.

And it’s all by donation! So come along, tomorrow, or any Friday for the rest of this month!

A gorgeous afternoon of poetry at Castle Books, Totnes @castle.bookshop.totnes with an excellent selection of poets reading, and a large enthusiastic audience, including someone visiting Totnes who heard the poetry as he walked by, and came in to join us!

Special thanks to Simon Travers @simonfromplym , our headliner, who had us all mesmerised, and particularly moved and inspired by a poem on feminism. Thank you so much Simon, for sharing your words and part of your journey of life/meaning/poetry with us. 🙏

It was such a nourishing gathering, including the conversation that followed the poetry, as well as another poetry friend dropping in to say hi as they passed by. Yes, it’s about the poetry, and...it’s also about so much more. These kinds of opportunities to connect and share and surprise each other and ourselves, to be reminded of times, people and places we’ve not thought of for a while because somone has shared a poem that takes us there. Precious.

Word Stir is going to take a break now, for the summer, but we will be back in September, so do put Sept 27th in your diaries! 🥰

Wishing you all a wonderful week! Keep writing, keep sharing, keep diving in to those conversations - and let the goodness of all that ripple and ripple.

Word Stir! Today!🥳🤩❤

All welcome! Come share your words, listen and savour, and celebrate the brilliance of our headliner Simon Travers @simonfromplym It all kicks off at 3pm at Castle Books, Totnes

It’s been a full poetry week, @spork_poetry at Chococo Exeter on Wednesday night was a blast as usual, and the air conditioning and ice cream come highly recommended too! Look our for Spork Summer Special, coming up Aug 5th!

Friday was fabulous, and will continue to be! 4 more Friday opportunities to catch me at @themansiontotnes for on the spot personal poems, and it the afternoon for a writing workshop in Totnes Library @totneslibraryofficial

AND...can I also recommend the Colour exhibition at RAMM (Royal Albert Memorial Museum) WOW!!! I went with a dear friend yesterday and it was fascinating! So rich and inspiring, I could definitely go again, like rereading a book or a poem that has been skilfully crafted with multiple layers, sometimes you find even more treasure the second time. I got home and continued some colouring of my own...
