![“… [The U.S. Congress’s House Committee on Education & Workforce] has centered its challenge [to Michel DeGraff’s lawsuit] around the Speech and Debate Clause of the Constitution, which protects members of Congress from prosecution while they’re undertaking legislative duties, in this case, investigating antisemitism on college campuses...” I myself must wonder what “legislative duties” are fulfilled by Committee Chair Tim Walberg’s false accusations against me in the Daily Wire—an alt-right outlet that spreads misinformation in fighting against equal opportunity in higher education. Walberg keeps repeating false accusations that have already been dismissed in Federal Court by a Judge who so clearly stated that “anti-Israel sentiment is not antisemitic.” Worse yet, Walberg’s bogus evidence of “antisemitism” includes my quoting … guess, can’t make this up … an Israeli Jewish scholar who has meticulously analyzed both antisemitism & anti-Palestinian racism in Israeli education as “mind infection” (her term of art—not mine).
The message is that I'm only allowed to demystify “mind infection” among Black folks as my work over three decades has done, but it’s forbidden to unlock knowledge @mitocw & open learning @mitopenlearning about Palestine and Israel. And it’s quite telling that the source of the “mind infection” phrase is identified in my Complaint, yet the Committee’s motion to dismiss attributes it to a nameless (unnamable?) “guest lecturer.” Sorry @peledelhanan.
Let’s pray the Court will rise to the occasion in defense of truth & democracy, including the First Amendment. Link to article in comments.
Reposting • @Cambridge_Day • @MIT has asked a court to dismiss the first count of a lawsuit filed against it by Michel DeGraff, a linguistics professor at MIT. DeGraff in March sued MIT, the House Committee on Education & Workforce & chair of the committee Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich) for violating his First Amendment & civil rights by targeting his anti-Zionist & pro-Palestinian speech. DeGraff has asked the court to order the committee to stop targeting him in reports or seeking records about him & to award him monetary relief.#
