MeMe Detroit kicked off last night at the John Peel Centre. I’ll admit I’d forgotten just how good they were, having last caught them about eight years ago, so this was an excellewnt refresher. While MeMe herself is the only original member in this current three-piece, as is often the way with rising bands, the music immediately felt familiar - full-on, high-octane alt-rock delivered at breakneck speed. They certainly woke the room up and got everyone primed and ready for Blue Nation!

The always-entertaining Blue Nation made their maiden voyage to the John Peel Centre last night, and hopefully, it won't be their last. A packed crowd gathered to witness a seamless stroll through their finely crafted catalogue, peppered with warm, hilarious banter between the band and audience.

These Wicked Rivers were the opening act for Robert Jon & The Wreck at Cambridge Junction.

Having seen them several years ago, they left a lasting impression as a "must-see again" band, despite playing a short set back then. Sadly, that opportunity didn't arise again until this weekend, and I'm pleased to say my memory served me well.

Last night at the Ipswich Regent Theatre was truly special. Ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett and his band were performing, blending his solo work with a cherry-picked selection of early Genesis tracks from before the band took their regrettable commercial turn.

For the third time in four years, Robert Jon & the Wreck hit the stage at Cambridge Junction last night, bringing their infectious southern rock to a packed house. As the opening show of their European tour, with only a handful of UK dates before heading across the channel, it felt like a true privilege to be there to capture the night.

When Rivers Meet are reaching the final stretch of their Rhythm, Rust & Static tour. Having seen the opening show back in July, I knew I was in for a treat when they visited the Norwich Arts Centre last night. As a long-time fan, I’ve waxed lyrical about their live shows many times before, and this night was no exception.

Canadian Garret T. Willie and his band opened for Ally Venable at The Waterfront, bringing a wall of sound, growling vocals, and intense guitar shredding. Though it was a short 25-minute set, it was more than enough to prove they are well worth seeing again.

Texan Ally Venable is touring the UK at the moment. Backed by a rock-solid rhythm section Ally held centre stage with authority at The Waterfront last night. Blending soulful vocals with fiery, epic guitar riffs, her playing was fast, fluid, and relentless. The set leaned heavily into the rockier end of the blues-rock spectrum, landing squarely in my sweet spot.

I’ll admit it, the New Model Army completely passed me by during their rise in the '80s post-punk scene. Last night at the John Peel Centre, I was able to fix that gap in my musical history, and the sold-out crowd gave a clue that I might have missed something special.
