13 January 2024. It all goes back to that day.

When i went to Montreal for a big tech event for a week with a group from my uni.

I was in my 3rd year. No exposure, no projects, and I made my Linked In on the way to the airport. The people I went with had multiple internships and I looked up to them so much and wished to be like them one day.

By day 3 of the tech event, many of these people I went with had bonded so well with some of the recruiters there that they even asked them to directly apply through an internal link.

I still remember. Clearly. When everyone was sitting next to each other outside the networking hall editing their resumes and reviewing each others resume quickly before applying, I asked one of them to review mine so I could apply as well. As soon as they saw mine, they made fun of it. They said “what the fuck is this”. And pointed out all the flaws.

I eventually respected the feedback, but just the feedback. I didn’t know younger me would carry that pain for the years to come.

And now, many years later, it terrifies me if I’m not seen as someone highly skilled at what they do.

I have the perfect job in the provincial government needed to transition to a cloud engineering role with enough projects and self-learning.

Yet, in the present moment, it scares me to allow myself to be seen, as I am.
