This is the Sunday morning dream. Me, a cup of tea, and morning birdsong.

The parenting reality: discussing with a 5-year-old whether the strawberry yoghurt we’ve frozen can be eaten for breakfast, and explaining why the £26.87 she’s saved up is not enough for a puppy (and why they aren’t sold in shops like hamsters 🫠).

She’s such a considerate, loving little girl and so much fun at the moment. Sunday mornings with a 5-year-old are certainly never boring! by @haswellhouse

Quite possibly my quickest makeover yet!

The IKEA Trofast is SUCH a great storage solution for kids, but I think it looks even better after a little glow-up. ✨

Ohhhh, nothing’s ever straightforward in our house, is it?! 😂

We measured, we considered, we planned, we discussed, we debated, we questioned, we bantered, we ordered…

And then when it arrived, we had to go right back to the drawing board and start again because a 30mm, 2440 x 1220 sheet of birch ply will never, ever fit up our staircase. 🫣

Thankfully, I saved the day and we came up with a whole new design at the 11th hour. Honestly, we do love creating headaches for ourselves! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I get asked SO many questions about our IKEA hack so here are all the details 👇🏼

YOU WILL NEED:
1. IKEA Platsa frame 40cm x2
2. IKEA Platsa frame 180cm x2
3. IKEA Hjalpa drawer without fronts x 4
4. IKEA Sannidal drawer fronts x4
4. IKEA Sannidal door 60cm x2
5. IKEA Sannidal door 120cm x2
6. Antique brass knobs x6 @corstonarchitecturaldetail
7. Ogee skirting board

THE FINISHING DETAILS ✨
~ Paint: ‘Gresham Blue’ @rustoleumuk
~ Tiles: Pavilion Porcelain in ‘Marine Blue’ @capietra

HOW WE BUILT IT
We started by building a base from MDF and OSB to the same height as the skirting board, so the PLATSA frames could be stacked on top. This gave us a solid, level starting point and meant the finished units would sit neatly above the skirting.

We then screwed a 12mm MDF trim to the sides of the PLATSA units before screwing through both the trim and the units to secure everything firmly to the wall. This also helped create that built-in, bespoke look.

We added ogee skirting board along the bottom, then flipped the same skirting upside down and added it along the top to create the coving detail.

Such a simple trick, but it makes SUCH a difference to giving it that ‘built-in’ look.

And that’s it! An IKEA PLATSA system transformed with a bit of MDF, some clever finishing touches, paint and beautiful hardware. ✨

Playroom of dreams ✨

I think we’ve created something fun and magical for her - a space that will grow with her. Hearing her say “thank you, thank you mama” was the only validation I needed 🥹

I hope it’s a space that will allow her imagination to continue to run wild and one she’ll enjoy it for years to come 💕

Oh July… you were so much fun☀️✨

A month full of adventures, memories, and celebrating success. Because what’s the point in achieving your goals if you don’t take a moment to enjoy them?

Here’s to celebrating every milestone - big and small. The next one HAS to be finishing the playroom, right?! 😅

And I’m so grateful for my family this month - having 55 call outs in July has definitely taken a bit of a toll and I’ve missed more bedtimes than I’d like. But I hope as Pippa is growing she understands why and that she’s proud of her mummy 💕

5. Ellie after dinner snack (desperate for these to come to the UK)

This girl is good 👌

I think this is the 3rd time I’ve had to make it look like we (Graeme) definitely haven’t moved a socket (don’t even ask). I’m a pro with a tub of filler.

And yes... he did get into trouble for making a mess of the carpet 🤦🏼‍♀️

Painting like a princess 👑

My little diy helper💕 She might make the job take twice as long, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love these little moments when she wants to learn, help, and be part of it all.

Despite how heavy the pole was for her she was determined to do it all by herself 🥹

It’s moments like these that remind me it’s not just about renovating the house; it’s about teaching her new skills and building memories together 🤍

London with kids... here’s everything we squeezed into 48 hours on our mummy & daughter adventure. ✨

Safe to say we didn’t stop!
🦖 Natural History Museum - Pippa was in her element showing me all the fossils she has at home.
🏛️ A walking tour taking in Big Ben and some of London’s iconic sights.
🐿️ Saying hello to the local wildlife.
🌀 Lots of fun at the Twist Museum on Oxford Street.
💂‍♂️ Watching the Changing of the Guard.
✨ A stop at the Disney Store.
🎭 The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre... I genuinely wasn’t prepared for how emotional I’d be.
🎬 Exploring the Outernet on Tottenham Court Road.
📮 Sorting mail at Sorted! in the Postal Museum.

Two days, so many memories... I think this might have to become an annual mummy & daughter adventure. ✨

So... where should we go next? 👀 I’d love your recommendations for a city that’s just as magical for a short family break with kids. ⬇️

“How’s the playroom going?” I hear you ask...

Well... these faces probably tell you everything you need to know. 😆

I’ve been told more times than I can count that I have a poker face or that people “can’t work me out”... but judging by this reel, I think I actually wear every emotion on my face!

Safe to say the playroom has been testing us... but we’ll get there in the end! 🤞💛
