Praia da Luz to Salema. 8 Miles walking west from Luz leaving behind the more commercial resort heading over headlands to the Burgau . A cooling swim and lunch before continuing to the beautiful sands of Praia da Almadena with its fort . Following the Rota Vincentina , crossing the estuary of the Boco do Rio to climb again before dropping into Salema . Salema, we first visited in 2002 . This bit of the Algarve is so different from the resorts further east .. a sleepy chilled out sort of place with the added bonus of fossilised dinosaurs prints … right there on the beach ! Leaving our lovely guesthouse out in the countryside we’ve moved to Sagres on the far southwest tip of Portugal. Travelling down we spent a couple of hours exploring Silves and its castle. One of the best preserved Arab fortifications in Portugal built between the 8th and the 13th century. A new corner to wander around . Today’s wander in the Monchique Valley , a taste of rural Portugal. Perfect for cycling and walking , we took a route through Cork oak woods through terraces and small hamlets before returning to Monchique for lunch .
