In Bayreuth, WAGNER WELTWEIT has left the stage and become a space you can walk into — until October 4.

How are political feelings produced, distributed, repeated and aesthetically stabilised? The performance layered operatic myth, war, social media, propaganda and real-time music; the museum version turns that layering into something you move through. Fragments, projections, voices, sound and newly composed music surround you across eleven stations, and there is no fixed distance, no single perspective from which to take it all in. The space can be entered, crossed, left and entered again.

Bayreuth is not a neutral host for this. Here the work meets Wagner in the place where his cultural legacy is still being produced, preserved and contested, and where fascination, inheritance, appropriation, resistance and political meaning refuse to separate cleanly from one another.

The installation is built to travel — its stations can be re-scaled for museums, festivals, opera houses and exhibition spaces. If you programme rooms where these questions belong, write to us.

Ein Agitprop-Musical

Wo Geld verheizt wird, wird auch Verantwortung verheizt.
„Was kostet unser Gas“ führt in die Welt der Energiewirtschaft, in der sich mit Wärme „Übergewinne“ erzielen lassen. Ein unübersichtliches Sammelsurium aus Beraterinnen, Agenturen und Verbänden, das öffentlich jammert und heimlich verdient. Ein Heer aus Anwältinnen und Betriebswirtinnen, das eine Welt der Nachlässigkeit und der legitimen Bereicherung formt. Und mittendrin: die Mieterinnen, gefangen in Monopolen und Verträgen, allein gelassen mit der Rechnung.
Niemand ist verantwortlich, aber alle profitieren, außer natürlich die Mieter*innen. Wir antworten darauf mit der stärksten Waffe des Universums: einem Musical.

WAGNER WELTWEIT is coming to Bayreuth — as an installation for the Richard Wagner Museum.

150 years of Bayreuther Festspiele.
50 years of Richard Wagner Museum.

The timing is not insignificant. We are in a political era in which narratives, enemy stereotypes, fear, nostalgia and promises are once again shouting intensely for attention. Election campaigns are not only based on real content or arguments but they generate moods, they reinforce images, repeat simple tropes of threat, loss, salvation and belonging.

WAGNER WELTWEIT stages these emotions and constructs a machinery around the thoughts of how political sentiments are manufactured and how they work. The Ring of the Nibelung, the Russian Wagner Group, social media, propaganda and the present-day landscape of political seduction appear in this work as systems that are hooked together. They do not share a single theme, but a gravitation.

For Bayreuth, we construct an installative version. The material of the performance is translated into a space in which sound, projection, research, the body and the political present create new connections and a scary tissue!.
