This one’s for the parent googling “things to do in Byron when it’s raining” at 7am. Or the one who’s already done the beach twice this week and has the sunburn to prove it. PLAY is on at Haven all school holidays. It’s an indoor, hands-on exhibition where kids are encouraged to touch, make and play, and the grown-ups get to enjoy art that isn’t stuck to the fridge. It costs less than the movies, popcorn and a choc top, and the kids walk out without a sugar high. The Terrace Markets are on the second Saturday of every month, 8am–1pm, right here on the Terrace at 102 Jonson St - and we’re always on the lookout for good people making good things. We’re so pleased to have @schmuck_jewellery_byronbay join us next weekend where Martin will be showcasing the best of the best of his work. Jewellery is a fantastic gift idea for birthdays and the festive season that’s coming up! \\ Makers, growers, bakers, vintage hunters, ceramicists, the person who does the one very specific thing better than anyone else - if that’s you, we’d love to have you. Okay, here’s the thing about XYZ SCULPTURES: most of it refuses to be still. Five artists got hold of sound, light and space and wouldn’t leave any of it alone. The one exception is the 3D print sculpture - sound mapped and printed into a solid shape you can walk around, holding perfectly still while everything else carries on. Because everything else does carry on: light that reacts the second you reach for it, sound that trails you around the room like it’s a little obsessed, spaces that quietly rearrange themselves depending on who’s wandering through. @mimi_stein curated the lot around one very on-brand idea: play.
