“You had to sign language interpret ‘Vegemite a drop-bear to death’”

Having the inconceivable opportunity to watch this group of nerdy-ass voice actors messing around and rolling dice, live in Sydney, was an experience like nothing else! A night full of so much laughter and celebration, full of drop-bears, and crowd surfing crocodiles, and dick jokes, and an ever-present buzz of excitement and love and passion.

I don’t have the words to describe the magic that was the Sydney Live Show, nor how surreal it was to be in the room where it happened, watching such a wonderfully chaotic story unfold, surrounded by thousands of people just like me. To suddenly be thrust into this microcosm of fans who understand every niche, specific reference, and share others in return. Who trade trinkets, offer compliments, and know some parts of you completely and wholeheartedly without ever having met you. United by this lifeblood of stories that runs through our veins- in some cases a black ichor, in others a twisting tapestry of vines, in others all pink and sparkly and sweet.

There is something so special about CR that pervades words. It is something so potent and beautiful and powerful. Maybe it’s our humanity. It’s given people connection, and love, and laughter, and heartache, and hope. Critical Role has made a community around being human, and telling stories. Gods, what a ridiculous, incredible thing they’ve done.

These days were some of the best of my life. Truly, filled with more joy and purpose and love and meaning than I thought possible for my life to contain.

What a magical whirlwind of a week. What a family I have found myself in. To Critical Role and the wonderful community surrounding them, how unimaginably, inexplicably grateful I am to you all for it. Happy 10 years, Critical Role. Here’s to the next 10 ♥

“I’m the transmutation wizard, but you are the one who changes people ♡”

In the simplest of terms, I don’t know where I’d be without Critical Role. I cannot communicate in words sincere or all-consuming enough how profoundly meaningful it was to meet the cast of CR, to meet the people responsible for changing my life in the most unimaginable of ways; sincerely, I would not be here today, nor be the person I am proud to be becoming, without them. To have had even the brief opportunity to share a snippet of that unending gratitude and appreciation was nothing short of an absolute dream! I’ve been left all happy and hopeful and full of bright, unfiltered joy and passionate, fervent love for this gorgeous little life of mine! 🫶

I cannot fathom what my life would look like without having stumbled into the world of D&D, into the stories and characters I have come to know and love and resonate with so deeply. Sometimes I wonder how I can make it through this world knowing that hard times and bad things are inevitable, and will keep happening. But I know CR, and everything it stands for, will always remain a blinking light in that darkness. An opportunity to escape, a channel for creativity, filled with worlds so vast and rich and beautiful, and with so much love and heartache and hilarity.

What a beautiful gift we have been given. For the love of friends and found family, for the love of community, for the love of shared passion, for the love of storytelling, for the love of art in all its forms. For the love of these worlds and these characters and the fondness with which we fans and makers cradle it all. How lucky we all are. How lucky indeed. Don’t forget to love each other, and is it Thursday yet? ♥

“Everybody is hurting, everybody wants to be happy, everybody is looking for someplace to belong, and looking for other people to tell them that they’re loved.”

Critical Role has changed my life in so many unimaginable ways, not least of which, having the opportunity to meet so many wonderful cosplayers, artists, and fellow Critters at the Sydney Live Show and at Sydney @supanovaexpo! There is such an incredibly kind, generous, talented and welcoming community surrounding CR, on a scale that I never could have anticipated- I am so much kinder, so much happier, so much richer for having known you, friends. Sincerely, I will never have the words to thank you all for the best, most magical, most memorable week I ever could have asked for.

And by extension, cosplaying Jester this year has felt like the ultimate release of all the built-up chaotic cuteness inside of me- she is such a transformation from what I usually look like, but has also become such a truthful and beautiful depiction of the happiest, most joyful, authentic version of me. She, along with CR as a whole, has made my world so much brighter, full of so much whimsy, and joy, and feeling.

I love Critical Role, the cast, the crew, these characters, these stories, this beautiful community I have found myself in more than I will ever be able to express.

It has me so hopeful for so many bright and beautiful days ahead- filled with cosplay, and fan-art, and Critter meets, and streams to watch, and conventions to attend, and friendships, new and old, and filled above all, with time spent retreating to Exandria, and soon the worlds beyond, to stories and characters, familiar and emerging, with this wonderful family of Critters. My heart lives here with you all, in this beautiful world we have come to call home ♥
