Page 1 of sketchbook

Meant to post this at the beginning of the year. Then I had my baby and suddenly it’s November. Not my best work nor is it a favourite but this is precisely why this sketchbook exists. To test out my work on a smaller scale before committing to a bigger piece and humming and hawing my way through it.

What 2022 taught me

To listen to my body. Hearing loss diagnosis and pregnancy have taught me to slow down and listen to the constraints of my body. Don’t keep pushing. Don’t tough it out. Rest. Eat. Sleep. And then rest some more.

Details of Flowers in Vase

Feeling the itch to return to more abstract work after this. I have been listening to @lisacongdon podcast and loved her episodes on finding your artistic voice. It made me reflect on my “why”. I’ll have to give this one a thought. One day at around age 13 I picked up a biro pen and started drawing and I’m going to have to reflect on why I did that. And perhaps equally important: why did I continue?

Flowers in vase (A3)

Summer is here and the flowers are in bloom. I’m quite chuffed with how this one turned out. Have been listening to true crime audiobooks and trying my hand at Indian curry recipes. What can I say, my tastes are varied and did I mention summer is here?

I started this as a fun challenge for myself using @brittillustrates “draw this in your style challenge”. Slowly this girl transformed into an Afghan girl with peace in heart and henna on her hands.

Dedicated to all the afghan school girls who were killed in the recent bombings in Kabul. Rest In Peace beautiful girls and I’m sorry that humanity failed you.
