It’s Diabetes Awareness month and my 15th Diaversary today. 15yrs of many highs and lows with lots of changes this year and happy Diaversary to me I am now a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES)! I think that’s one of the best celebrations I could have asked for this year. With all these changes I’ve been pretty tired and that’s okay. It’s okay to acknowledge you’ve been going hard for a while and listen to your mind and body for rest when you can. Even if diabetes never rests. Sometimes it rides along in the sidecar and sometimes it causes the crash. Get up. Dust it off. We’ve still got life to live and things to do. Let’s go.I was looking through my pictures and came across this photo by the lovely and amazing @theroguecapulet.media who managed to capture both my diabetes tech devices from @tandemdiabetes and @dexcom . These stone throws were completely unexpected this weekend and are so special to me. I’ve been throwing for nearly 12yrs with one goal: to throw a shot past 50ft in competition and I always fell just short at every turn for YEARS. Talk about long-term goals. Yes, this is a different sport, yes, the stone is slightly lighter, and it wasn’t perfect. But I still drove home with a stupid smile on my face the whole way because I finally got it! And not only did I get it but I blew past it by another foot! At the Womens Championships. At Pleasanton. I now hold both field records on that historical field. The timing was never more perfect.Of course it depends on the weight of the stones but I’m hoping this signals a breaking down of that 50ft barrier and I can keep improving well above this in the future! Thank you all for all the support. I’ve taken a second to collect my thoughts after last week. 2026 IBJJF Super Heavy Blue Belt World Champ. That statement is absolutely wild if you know the whole story leading up to this week. Frankly, I am astounded by the trust and belief in me from the very beginning; it took a minute for me to trust in the vision myself. And this was only even the first step.Then, setback after setback. The past few months have been a rollercoaster mentally, emotionally, and physically for many reasons. To go from revving up for the most intense competitions of the year in 3 sports to almost complete stillness after recurrent illness and a broken shoulder was jarring. No one would let me (rightly) be a badass and train or compete. But when I said I thought I could still make a run at IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Worlds in exactly my 6wk-to-the-day recovery timeline, my Sensei @nathendanforth didn’t hesitate to support that: “If you’re down, I am”. No doubts, just belief that I was capable and trust that I would do everything I could to be ready despite a bad situation. I’m still floored by this.Everyone at @ironwoodjiujitsu included me while I sat on the sidelines in class for a month (majorly depressed and sick), trained modified with me when I could, and cheered for me on the road to Worlds. So many at @pallatonbjj my Judo Sensei’s at @tucsondojo @yamadojotucson and at Ironwood quietly acknowledged “okay, she’s doing this” and helped me execute the plan every step of the way. Damn. I’m so grateful to be where I am. This was for them. Thank you all. There is a piece of every one of you in this medal and what it represents 💙Now, back to work. WoB was on fire in Utah. Sailed over every height, including my PR of 18ft and then made attempts at 18ft 6in that looked more like 19ft+. Just needed to stop leaving it out in front!@utahheavyathletics ...#highlandgames #throwing #throws #weight #strongman by @hawkeish

Somehow I’ve figured something out on HWFD because I was shocked to see all HWFD be 40ft+ with a new PR at 41ft 7in in Utah. These still aren’t impressive numbers compared to some of the other badass female Pros but I am so happy to see progress for me in my traditionally worst event! I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this Games after the past few interesting weeks…but it was another amazing start to the season at the Redstone Highland Games in St. George, UT. Beautiful weather, company, and beautifully run by @utahheavyathletics - thank you to @aubrif for the smooth organization (welcome back to throwing!) and to the whole team for making the day a wonderful experience for all. Congratulations to everyone on the field making it out to compete, PR, place, hit goals, get started, get moving - love to see it.I was fortunate to spend some time with family, friends, past teammates and competitors, and shared the field with my high school coach who was instrumental in me becoming the thrower and athlete I am today. A new kilt from @highlandredstone was the perfect excuse for a desert photo shoot!This is the Scottish Heritage weathered tartan. It’s soft, has a nice weight to it, easy to move in, and would work well for throwing things or a formal event.
