EDIT: Hi friends! I’m hosting a Plant Allyship exploration group starting **Sept 27th!** It’s free to join, and I’ll guide us through 3 weeks of developing deeper connection with 1-2 plant allies.

My journey with plants has been so enriching. It started with making teas and fun bevvies to help myself through various needs physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Now I’m journeying deeper with creating oils, tinctures, smoke cleansing sticks, and even dreaming with them. They offer so much presence and support!

Our Earth is so beautiful and abundant, and learning to communicate with plants has helped me reframe my life in moments of feeling lost and lonely, to experiencing myself a part of a miraculously interconnected world.

In the 3 week guided journey, I’ll help you select your plant ally and design how to go deeper into relationship with it.

The deepest root of our education crisis is a community crisis. We have learned through western ideals to prioritize individual achievement and self-actualization over everything. Now we live in a world where there is excessive fragmentation of adults who distrust one another and are still learning how to share responsibility of community and care for children.

The indigenous wisdom of the Blackfoot tribe has modeled how it is *community actualization* that allows every child to be fully expressed within their inherent gifts. The community cultivates this through education, ritual, experiences, and prayer.

Our education system can be so focused on achievement in literacy and math that we have little opportunity to invest in the many diverse, inherent gifts of our children.

As I’m imagining a new system that seeks to draw out these inherent gifts, I’m thinking of what life experiences and practical skills would empower these students and even transfer their confidence toward literacy and math.

Our collective care for children is what will lead our next revolution.

During the industrial age, labor movements lead revolutionary change to earn rights for workers + so many more of us.

What if in the intelligence/creation age we are entering now, the greatest motivating force for collective change is for the most creative person you know: your child, your niece or nephew, your grandson or granddaughter, your students, maybe even your own inner child or inner creative?

Before patriarchy codified violent extraction of life, we organized ourselves around life giving values and the cycles of life. I believe teachers, caregivers, and indigenous people are gifted with the wisdom to lead change toward reorganizing our communities towards these same values, for today. I’m starting to think about a new system of education for our children, families, and teachers! One that’s built from the best of who we are today, and is oriented towards a more connected, thriving tomorrow. There’s so much to talk about on this subject, but this is just the beginning…

Like any good teacher, I’m starting with the positive things I notice about how adults are showing up for children. I wonder what do you notice and appreciate about how adults engage children today?

Romantic Rhine Storytime

Our first destination was the “Romantic Rhine,” the home of our ancestors, where I knew I would fall in love with the land and the stories of the people. As life (and Spirit) will have it, romance found me in even more ways than this!

On the first day of this journey, I was actually quite discouraged. We were all suffering from a dangerous heat wave, I gave myself a black eye stumbling around in the dark of my room, and my mom woke up to an eye infection. We planned for rest, but now we were headed to the hospital for the whole day.

My mom and I decided to at least get a cute European cafe breakfast before cooping ourselves up in a waiting room. We had a tasty quiche and a very frothy iced matcha on a patio while trying to pick up new German lingo with the waitress. Now at ease with the leisurely European pace, we started walking to the hospital when we stumbled the upon an adorable alleyway — the one in the first picture.

As I got into my first pose, one arm holding onto the lamppost while I leaned myself open to the street, I asked my mom to take a picture and asked something like, “How’s this look?” At the very same instant, a man came around the corner and answered, “You’re beautiful!” He stopped to ask why I was in Koblenz. I told him we were on holiday, but that we were headed to the hospital to treat my mom’s eye infection. This encounter soon turned into a miracle because he was a doctor, and wanted to help! He assured me that he did in fact want my number, but he also wanted to get a prescription for my mom so we wouldn’t have to go to the hospital. We chuckled, did a contact exchange, and said our goodbyes, shocked by our luck!

Sharing my ancestry trip in Europe! It feels like I’m stepping into a time machine to remember my roots, and more of who I am.

First, my parents and I will be visiting the Rhine River region in Germany. Somehow 5 different ancestral families all lived there! Before immigrating, the Gottsackers (we think this means “God’s acre”) were from a village of vintners. They were a part of a wave of others leaving Germany because of religious persecution and bad harvests. Those who stayed came together to form the world’s first wine co-op that still exists and makes award winning wines to this day! We might be able to meet another Gottsacker relative who still contributes their harvests to the co-op.

Then, in northern Italy, we’ll be visiting the land of our ancestors who immigrated to San Jose and started a bed and breakfast called Hotel Torino, to welcome other Italian Americans. We’ll be staying in a bed and breakfast between the two villages where Theresa and Vicente Roffinella lived.

I love this family history of hospitality and care for community and land. I’m excited to connect with the land, the food, the people, and my ancestral roots!

Bevvie is a hibiscus, rose, hawthorne, tulsi, cinnamon tea, topped with sparkling guava juice from TJs. A sparkling heart refresher!

Everytime I drink hibiscus my skin is PLUMP. Don’t sleep on our girl!!! 🌺🥭💦✨🫶🏻
