Confessions of a founder Part 2: Are pop-ups worth it?

My answer is… yes, but probably not when you’re just starting.

We’ve run pop-ups everywhere from luxury resorts to shopping malls, and while they’ve helped us grow EQL, they also take far more work than most people realize.

Inventory.
Staffing.
Visual merchandising.
Transport.
Operations.
It’s basically running a temporary retail store.

If your business fundamentals aren’t solid yet, I’d put that time and energy into building a better product, improving your marketing, or hiring great people first.

Once you’ve got those dialled in, pop-ups become a powerful way to reach customers who prefer shopping in person.

Like most things in business, it’s not about whether something works. It’s about whether it’s the right time.
