Recollecting my record collecting
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Give Milli Vanilli their Grammy back. They just pioneered that lip sync shit and fooled the whole industry. Baby Don’t Forget My Number has more hooks in it than Billie Jean. No one cares that they didn’t sing on the record and no cares that they ripped the beat off from Eric B and Rakim’s Paid in Full. Speaking of which, where would Hip Hop and Electro music be in general without this classic Cold Crush remix…#dj #vinyl #digging #technics1200 taken in Sydney, Australia by @hazbeat

Ok fam so it looks like we good on here for now. Makes me feel a little more inspired. Both these mint 12’s were recently dug out. Pump Up The Volume was an important track that helped sampling and drum breaks become more mainstream. The second track was heavily sampled by Ray Parker Jnr on the original Ghostbusters soundtrack. More stuff to come. #dj #vinyl #digging #technics1200 taken in Sydney, Australia by @hazbeat

Dug out this Tina Turner 12” from Papadisco for $10. Everyone knows Mad Max 3 sucks but this dub is super nice. Layered it up with one of Preemo’s finest and you get some smooth frequencies to raise your vibes on this beautiful rainy Saturday morning. Play records, drink coffee, make love. Life’s good…#dj #vinyl #digging #technics1200 taken in Sydney, Australia by @hazbeat

Always loved this track. George Micheal and Aretha Franklins voice blend so well together. I copped this 12” from Papadisco in Enmore and was hyped the 808 sound. Arthur Baker Buffalo Stance remix goes nice…#dj #vinyl #digging #technics1200 taken in Sydney, Australia by @hazbeat

Full mix is too hot for the gram🔥 Donny and Jordan were hyped on it though. Chopped the break up to under a minute and hopefully this one will pass. Extended version in highlights. Over it…#dj #vinyl #digging #technics1200 taken in Sydney, Australia by @hazbeat

Picked up both these 12”s recently from my man Larry @mcpsmurf @scratchesrecords. My favourite place to dig in the inner west #dj #vinyl #digging #technics1200 taken in Sydney, Australia by @hazbeat

Hopped on the Rev7 for a beat. I love playing around on this thing. @joy_orbison_ dropped this absolute heater and the track of 2024 for mine. Fred’s edit is the icing on the cake! Laced with some Fortet chimes sounds real nice. Last post for the year and maybe ever if Albo gets his way down here. We’ll see. I’m not sure how it’s going to work. Let it be known that Benny Haz does not and will not ever comply with any bullshit government reforms. Flex up👊🏻#dj #rev7 by @hazbeat

Ice T first sampled this James Brown lick on “You played yourself” and here Nas again on this “Get Down” 12” which I bought from Mall Music at Brookvale. Not sure where the RJD2 came from but it’s a pretty cool album #dj #vinyl #digging #technics1200 taken in Sydney, Australia by @hazbeat

Rolled past @recordstoresydney and picked up @mofunkthedj new release fresh off the press and few 80’s 12’s. I found something real nice to lace it with on a B side of a record I’ve hardly played. If you’re only sourcing music digitally you’re missing out on an very important and enjoyable part of the culture…#vinyl #dj #digging #technics1200 taken in Sydney, Australia by @hazbeat

This movie has always been one of the biggest influences in my life. I was about 10 when I first got a copy on VHS from the video store. As soon as the opening credits started I knew the tape was never going back. I watched it everyday before and after school. Beat Street was for many people, myself included the first introduction to what was then the very early stages of emerging Hip Hop culture. It’s why I wanted to collect records and become a Dj. Yes the graffiti element was unfortunately not represented well but everything else was legit. The sound track actually got released on 3 different LP’s. Grandmaster Melle Mel certainly laid down some political heavy lyrics that are still relevant to this day on the title track. Scratches by Vicious Lee. I’ve also got it on 45” but not sure where I found this 12” from but I know it took me a while…#vinyl #dj #techics1200 #digging #beatstreet #freetaven taken in Sydney, Australia by @hazbeat
