EDIT: LINK IS IN BIO NOW!!!

I finally get to share what I've been working towards!!

"A Place by the Fire" will be my first studio album, produced by the incredibly talented @bestmannmusic. It is truly such a dream to make this music come to life, and I cannot wait to share more with you as the process continues.

This album asks:

What are you welcoming into your life? What do you welcome within yourself? What remains unwelcome?

I hope to show you that even those most shadowed parts of you deserve a warm, gentle welcome, and A Place by the Fire.

This project is my attempt to make my music as accessible as possible- not everyone can spare the time, money, or energy to come see a live show, but most people stream music on the daily. My hope is that by bringing my songs to life in the recorded world, anyone who wants or needs to hear my music will be able to listen to their heart's content.

This brings me to my related announcement: THE FUNDRAISER FOR THIS ALBUM HAS JUST DROPPED!!!! Creating an album is SO expensive and while I'm putting as much of my money as I can towards it, I'll need your help to bring it to life. There are so many important a beautiful causes to put your money towards, and if you choose to support my music with it, I cannot thank you enough.

Slides:

- a Beautiful portrait from the wonderful @marisaxon.art

- a clip of "Have to/ Laugh Too" featuring @highteaband rom Savory, a full live album which is available for early listening on my fundraising website.

- a clip of "Constellations" from Breathe, the remaining 10 songs of which are also available for early listening on the fundraising site.

- My merch team!! These lovely fellows are available for varied prices, are all handmade by yours truly, and will guaranteed make your day better whenever you see them.

- A sneak peek at what you'd be funding if you contribute! From the "More" scratch track session.

Thank you all for being a part of this beautiful musical life💙
I adore you by @hazelbasilmusic

I cannot possibly fully express how magical this show was. Thank you from the depths of my heart to everyone who showed up and made that space what it was.

To all of you who allowed yourselves to open and hurt and heal,

To @jessyedmusic and her wonderful band for holding you with such care and bringing this show into being,

To every single person at @parlorroommusic and @ironhorsenoho for supporting local musicians, building community, and bringing life and texture to the music scene of noho,

To SJ @yesandmediahouse for this gorgeous capture,

To you, reading this, wherever you are,

Thank you.

This first clip is from "Venus", a song about accepting and loving the parts of ourselves that we are taught to hate.

If you like what you hear, if you were touched by this music, and if you can spare the resources to help me bring these songs to life, PLEASE go tap the link in my bio! At time of posting, we're almost 90% of the way to a Hazel Basil EP!!

"More" - the meaning of this song has changed so much over time, but right now it means letting grief change you, and through that, letting it change itself. It's been changing every day lately.

"What I Look Like" - I wrote and arranged this piece just a couple days prior to the show, and you folks couldn't have given it a better reception. Thank you.

Special thanks to @heathermaloney_ for inspiring my recent lyricism to no end!!! If y'all ever get the chance to take her workshop, DO IT

"Beneath the Green" - I think this song showcases the super hard and loving work I've been doing on my voice this past year or so. After falling in love with @forager.music 's most recent album, I started to feel their vocal runs seeping into some of the music I was writing.

"Have to/Laugh Too" - this song has had so many different dear friends and collaborators on it in various shows, and this one was such a treat!!! @jessyedmusic was such a treat to perform with💙

I can't wait to spill who'll be on the recorded edition 👀

All of you 💙 this is why I'm here. taken in The Parlor Room by @hazelbasilmusic

These are my friends. These are my role models. These are MUSICIANS frfr.
If you haven’t heard my album Role Model yet, you’re missing out on some amazing musicianship on the parts of: @richelleparrisscott @hazelbasilmusic and the exceptional @averdelle
I love you dearly. I pray a journalist gives me the time of day to gush about you.

PARRIS on drums/brass/vox
Ailey Verdelle on keys/banjo/melodica
Hazel Basil on guitar/bass/vox

If white ppl put money where their mouths be, I’d be in the kitchen cooking with Doja Cat right now.
But I’m wearing the studio, booking, and branding hats like
wow.
The aura stacked like a nigga top hats.
A nigga top and a nigga take bats.
A nigga stack more pussy than racks.
And that’s like two at a time, bitches can’t stand me.
We love a short king but a nigga aura must be ye tall
to ride

Over the past year, I've had the immense honor and joy to share my music with my community, and it all started with Breathe.

With the help of @cityspace413, a community powerhouse and nigh unparalleled supporter of small artists, I put on a full two hour set of the music I'd been writing in my room for years. Getting to share so much of my work was a gateway for me into this beautiful community of music lovers and makers.

I'm thrilled to share that the first five songs on the live recording of Breathe are out today.

You might be asking "woah hazel, there's no way those five songs took up the whole two hours, right??" And you would be correct.

You might then ask "so where's the rest of it?" And I would tell you to stay tuned 😘

BEAUTIFUL photo credit for that last shot: the lovely @haunt_world

These videos are from shows at venues across western mass, including @cityspace413, @deepthoughtsrecordshop, @bookendsinflorence, @ehlibrary, @33hawley, @parlorroommusic, and @amberlanecafepub. Community hearts, one and all. Thank you so much. by @hazelbasilmusic
