7 days until I’m officially a FAMU alumna. 🎓🧡💚This school denied me the first time. My test scores weren’t where they “needed” to be, and there were people who told me I wouldn’t make it in period. But God had the last say so. Not the scores, not the doubters. Him.🥹✅FAMU is also where I figured out who I really am not who my family said I was, not who my old friends said I was, but who God says I am. That’s a different kind of freedom.😩It’s here that I found Jesus Christ for myself. I grew up in church, but this is where it became mine. And once I found Him, He started ordering my steps walking me through decisions that weren’t easy (some still aren’t), but I’m grateful for every one of them.🏄🏾‍♀️🎯I’m grateful for the professors who stayed patient with me, who didn’t give up on me even when I showed up in tears. Y’all saw me at some of my lowest and still poured into me.🥹💚To my small circle thank you for being there through the tears, through everything. Nothing you’ve done goes unnoticed, and I don’t take a single bit of it for granted. 🖤🤞🏾And to my family that’s still here by my side, thank you for being there for everything I’ve needed. I appreciate you more than words can say.🥹🫶🏾So if you’re out there right now feeling denied, counted out, or told you wouldn’t make it hold on. God isn’t finished. Out in 3. Nothing but the Grace and Mercy of God.✝️🏅✅ Magna Cum Laudę✅ Dean’s List✅ Honors College ✅ NSLS✅ Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica✅ Gospel Chorale✅ Campus Ministry✅ Live Music Ensemble My time at Virginia State consisted of a lot of self-reflection. I didn’t started out too involved with much but what truly mattered is getting connected with what truly mattered. VSU was never part of my plan during the college process, then Covid came and I withdrew from Howard before even entering, then came the loss of my mom. This was to honor one of our last conversations we had the week she passed and wanting me to go back to school. God knew exactly where I needed to be. From the moment I stepped on campus, He was grounding me, shaping me, and teaching me what it truly meant to walk with Him instead of just knowing of Him.Growing up saved is not the same as genuinely building a relationship with Christ, walking with Him daily and throughout my college journey, my faith became real to me in a completely different way. I realized I didn’t know Him the way I thought I did, and that realization changed my life. From being diagnosed with anxiety and depression and choosing to lean on God than medication, my resilience always came out on the winning end. I found purpose here spiritually. Pursuing this degree was never saying goodbye to my dreams, it was preparation. I wanted to build the knowledge and acumen necessary to advocate for myself and help other creatives navigate an industry that too often loses the art within it. I met a version of myself I never expected to become — and I’m still growing into that woman every day. For that, I’ll always be grateful to Virginia State University.And to my Gospel Choir family, thank you for being my church away from home. Even when I sat quietly in my soprano corner, God was working on me through every rehearsal, every praise break, and every moment spent simply soaking it all in. VSUGC sparked revelations in me that I will carry forever. Love praising with you all and will always come back !💙🧡 by @hbcugirlsarelit
