Woke up this morning with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for my life & the opportunities I’ve been awarded by God. As I type this next to my sleeping daughter in a hotel room I can feel a tear rolling down my cheek. (Ask my wife and family how many times they’ve seen me cry)

Just to have the ability to entertain the sport of bodybuilding is truly a gift. I have become increasingly more aware of this fact- every sacrifice I chose to make this prep is just another persons normal day to day life.

To be have a family to support me and tolerate 6+ months of preparation for a day (especially a wife & daughter who undoubtedly had to deal with less than my best self at times), to having friends/coworkers/extended fam who take time from their own busy lives to message me, to my hardworking clients & even ppl I’ve connected with on social media reaching out- I am overwhelmed and blessed.

As I said this entire prep, my return to bodybuilding and reasoning for wanting to endure a prep again was to glorify God. Without my faith and reliance on Jesus I know I wouldn’t have been able to bring my best to the stage or even make it there. I didn’t take home the pro card yesterday but I did bring the absolute best package I could have on the day- 2nd in Novice and 3rd in overall.

All glory and honor to God. To be less than satisfied with what I put on stage would be to be less than satisfied with His work- which I can never be. Ultimately it will be His plan but I truly don’t feel like He wants me to be finished with natural bodybuilding yet.

Time will tell.. but for now I plan to get back some body fat, pour into my wife and baby and get back to the hard and heavy training that I love. I’m thinking I wouldn’t mind racking up a couple powerlifting totals in the 181 class while I’m light enough to compete there as well.

(I’ll post some stage photos soon once I get more sent to me and add a few to my story as well)

Finally got around to putting together some of the better stage shots from Saturday that I’ve found online & had sent to me.

For those asking about placement and how I did- I finished in 2nd for Novice class and 3rd in the overall. No pro card this show but after seeing stage photos and some video footage I am truly satisfied with the package I brought- I feel like my conditioning, posing, peak, etc were all dialed into 90-95% of my best possible which imo is more than enough to be satisfied with. Looking forward to seeing the professional photos and will post those when I get them.

Lastly- as much as I wanted to step off stage an OCB pro this last weekend & praise God for a victory- it is imperative to remember we must praise him in defeat, disappointment & when we don’t receive what we were hoping for just as boldly. He always deserves the glory.

Thank you all for being part of this journey back to the natural bodybuilding stage with me and special thanks to those behind the scenes of my prep. We will return.

One of the greatest posterior chain builders of all time- Barbell RDL’s

Relatively easy movement pattern to learn, only requires the most basic equipment and trains the glutes/hamstrings/erectors

It can also be a great accessory movement to build your deadlift numbers if strength is your primary goal.

425 x 7 this morning- slowly working my way back up.

If you want to build a dense posterior chain, consider adding 2-3 weekly sets of heavy RDL’s to your program. 📈

This unilateral bench supported cable row is one of my favorite exercises to train the lats.

You can adjust both the cable and the bench to whatever settings feel best for you but having the bench to brace yourself against really improves the standard unilateral low row.

Remember to keep your elbow close to your side and drive it back. I recommend using straps on this one because the forearm pump is nasty and might limit your set if you don’t.

A few sets from today’s deadlift + lower body session. Deadlifting at 5am is a bit rough but @likeaprosupplements new 9-Volt pre workout definitely helps kick start the system.

•Deadlifts- 405 x 5 first week back in the 400’s. Slowly finding my rhythm after not deadlifting for quite a while.
Second set was 385 x 7.

• @hammerstrengthofficial leg press- 590 x 8

• @panattaofficial Pendulum squat- 310 x 7

Everything has been progressing nicely- will probably push atleast another 2-3 weeks with these movements before swapping in new exercises/ rep ranges. Theres really no reason to make adjustments week to week within your workouts if you enjoy them & are steadily adding load or reps to your sets.

Getting stronger is one of the best indicators that you’re building muscle so if you’re constantly changing what you do in the gym without keeping any sort of track record, you might be missing out on gains. 📈📈📈

Try this warmup exercise before your next squat session to prime both your lower & upper body.

I personally don’t have a ton of time to spend warming up before getting under the bar so I started doing these to warm up my whole body quickly. They’re great to open your hips and ankles, get blood flowing and get your upper back/shoulders ready for the barbell.

1-2 sets and some shifting around in the bottom position is a great start. If you find this useful, let me know and I’ll post more like this.

@aldiusa owes me 6oz of chicken..

It’s no secret that food labels aren’t 100% accurate and there is always going to be a margin of error with pre packaged/prepared foods but developing the skill of estimating serving sizes can save you from being to far off.

This was almost half the amount of chicken (and therefor grams of protein) that they claimed on the label.

Would you have caught this or just assumed you were getting 4oz per skewer?

Let me be clear- I know that I still do not have the largest calves in the gym..

However, I have made significant progress in growing my calves over the last year for the first time even though a large portion of that was spent in a deficit during my bodybuilding prep. That said, I do believe this method will help a lot of people who are struggling to get their calves to grow.

You can do more sets or higher frequency if you want but this is what I do and it has worked for me.

2-3 sets of 6-12 reps of straight leg calf press like I’m going in the video. Holding the stretch for a 2-3 count is key. The quick bouncy high rep reps you’ve been doing for years on end aren’t going to start working all of the sudden. I also train them first in most of my sessions instead of saving them for the end when I’m tired and less motivated.

If you have small calves, give this a try. 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

Currently doing 6-7 sets of biceps per week- split between 2 days.

Today was alternating dumbbell curls + cable curls

Not a priority group but still getting enough sets in & pushing them hard enough to make improvements.

Progressing these alternating dumbbell curls is always fun- working my way back up to the 60’s soon. Next week I’ll stick with 55’s and try to squeeze out that 8th rep. Then we’re moving up.

First physique update since my show last month- as of this morning I’m up to 185lb bw. Lately my weight has been bouncing between 183-185.

I took about a week off after the show untracked & slightly unhinged but since then I’ve been back to tracking macros and dialing back in.

Gaining weight back this quickly isn’t necessarily ideal but I did achieve the desired effect I was after which is getting back to my baseline as fast as possible and feeling like myself during training again. I already feel comfortable pushing heavier weights during my sessions and training some compound movements I got away from at the end of prep. Weights are going up easier every week.

Time to make some serious progress..📶
