World Mental Health Month is this October, and it’s a reminder of how important it is to talk about mental health.

Although anyone at any age or stage can be affected by mental health issues, young people are increasingly facing mental health challenges. It’s important to check in, even if there’s no obvious signs of concern 🙏

It’s R U OK?Day, an opportunity to check in on the people around you, and equally importantly - to check in on yourself and how you’re feeling 💛

From our experiences working in the disability space, we know how daunting it can be to open up and be vulnerable. But most people are just waiting for one person to ask them if they’re *truly* okay - and it can be an incredible relief to someone who’s been bottling things up.

So take the chance to check in on someone you care about today, including yourself! You deserve to be heard and cared for 🙏

This Father’s Day, we want to shout out dads who’ve gone through hardship (or still are going through it), but continue to do work for themselves and show up for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Ethyn is one of those dads. His life hasn’t been easy, but since joining our program, he’s put so much work and has committed himself to becoming a better person, partner, and father all-round.

We’re incredibly proud of him, and of every dad who shows up determined to be better each day - it’s never a perfect journey, but that makes it all the more impressive. Happy dad’s day 👏👏👏

We’ve seen the difference between working alongside amazing care teams and working in ones that, for lack of a better term, suck.

For a kid who already has distrust in services, getting a different message from every adult around him is the difference in him making progress or not.

That’s why we sit in on care team meetings for every young person we work with. They need a team that is rowing in the same direction. by @headstart.au

Last week we sat down with Ziad Zakharia, the principal of @frankdandosportsacademy, where Headstart’s founder Nick spent some of his toughest times growing up.
