Nothing tests your public speaking skills like having two campus dogs sit in the seminar hall to fact check your workshop- about caring for them! 🧡😂

We could not have asked for a better audience! Dodo and Manglu arrived and listened to every word we discussed during the session. 🐶

Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi University is home to about 30 streeties. Through their initiative @venkyzdoggos, students care for the all campus dogs every day. They feed them daily, help them with their vaccinations, neutering, and find homes for those who need them. 🐾

We spent the afternoon looking closely at how dogs communicate through their body language. The gathering discussed why a dog might bark when we walk by, and what we can do next time to make our interactions with streeties safe and kind. Students also discussed responsible feeding practices, that helped keep their college campus peaceful without upsetting anyone’s daily routine.🤞🏻

We busted a few rabies myths too, including why washing a bite or scratch with soap and water and getting medical help right away matters. And we spoke about feeders, the people who show up for community dogs every day, and how responsible feeding keeps both the dogs and the neighbourhood happy.

The entire workshop affirmed that dogs and humans don’t have to be on opposite sides. With a little patience and understanding, there’s room for everyone. 🐾🤗

Bapu’s Ahimsa lives in the small, ordinary moments...

🐾 A car slowed down for a streetie crossing the road.
🐾 Honking replaced by patience.
🐾 A bowl of water, refilled every day.
🐾 A quick glance to check under the car before you drive off.
🐾 A feeding time that never gets missed.

Our colonies, our commutes, even our childhoods: none of them would feel the same without them!

For most students, college life means semester deadlines and canteen chai. 📚☕️

For Jetchun Doma, a PG student at Presidency University, Kolkata it also means a rescued cat named Kaju. 🐈

2-month-old Kaju walked into the Presidency University hostel one day without any siblings or a mother around, as if he knew he would find help there. 🥹

When Jetchun first saw the kitten, he was dehydrated and unwell. She and her friends immediately took him to a nearby vet, with the hostel warden kindly contributing ₹1,000 and other students pooling their pocket money to cover his treatment.

With lots of love, care and medicine, Kaju began recovering and started exploring every corner of the hostel. Jetchun looked after his every need, making sure he was fed, cleaned up after, and given his daily medicines while balancing her own lectures, assignments, and exams. ⚖️🤞🏻

Jetchun created adoption posters and reached out to as many people as possible, hoping to find Kaju a family. When no one came forward to adopt and knowing how unsafe the traffic outside the hostel would be for a kitten, she made the decision to bring Kaju into her own life permanently. 🐾🧡

Keeping a kitten in a hostel brought its own share of challenges and stressful days, old superstitions, complaints, the odd cold shoulder, but Jetchun handled every situation with patience and compassion. She spent her time helping fellow hostellers get comfortable around Kaju, and reminding anyone that looking after that life is a responsibility everyone around it should share. :)

When asked why she never once considered giving him up, her answer was simple. She said she could not turn her back on a life that depended on her and still call herself human. 🫶🏻

Today, Kaju is five months old, healthy, and thriving right by Jetchun’s side. If you choose not to walk away when a life needs your help, then you are our kind of people, the @headsupfortails kind of people. 🧡
