Clairo grew up in the Atlanta area (the same hometown as Playboi Carti) and spent her early teenage years deeply embedded in internet music culture.

Before becoming known as Clairo, she uploaded rap mashups, DJ mixes, and hip-hop covers online under the name DJ Baby Benz. Growing up during the rise of the SoundCloud era, artists like Carti were naturally part of the musical world she was paying attention to.

What makes her appreciation for Carti interesting is that, despite working in completely different genres, both artists share a similar approach to music. Rather than focusing on technical lyricism, they prioritize atmosphere, emotion, melody, and texture.

Projects like Die Lit are built around repetition, vocal inflections, ad-libs, and feeling. As someone whose own music relies heavily on creating a specific mood, Clairo has spoken about appreciating the way Carti uses his voice less as a traditional rapper and more as an instrument within the production itself.

Julia Fox and Ye were together for little more than a month, yet their relationship became one of the defining visual moments of 2022.

They first met on New Year’s Eve in Miami before quickly becoming inseparable. Within days, Ye flew Julia to New York for Slave Play, followed by dinner at Carbone, where he organized an impromptu photoshoot inside the restaurant. A few days later, he surprised her with an entire hotel suite filled with new clothes, a moment Julia later described as feeling like “a real Cinderella moment.”

Their appearances at Paris Fashion Week, coordinated Balenciaga looks, heavy leather, denim and dramatic eye makeup quickly became some of the most recognizable celebrity images of that year. What lasted only weeks ended up influencing months of fashion editorials, paparazzi photography and internet aesthetics.

Looking back, the relationship feels less like a conventional celebrity romance and more like a creative collaboration unfolding in public. Years later, the images remain far more memorable than the timeline itself.

Julia would later say she genuinely believed the relationship could become something real, but eventually felt she had been “weaponized” during Ye’s public divorce from Kim Kardashian. Their romance ended in February 2022, though its visual legacy continues to be referenced across fashion and internet culture.

PinkPantheress before her rise to fame was a 14 year old girl who became the lead singer in a rock band that performed covers of My Chemical Romance, Paramore and Green Day and performed with them for the first time at a school.

She later went on to pursue a career in filmmaking but later dropped out in 2022 to chase her music dreams. But 3 years later she received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from the University of Kent at Canterbury Cathedral and became the producer of the year awarded by the Brits award becoming the first woman to be given the prize since its inception in 1977.

Before MUSIC had a final shape, there was the CAVE era.

In 2023, Carti revealed he had spent months recording inside a cave in Paris, describing the music that came out of those sessions as “chaotic and crazy.” That period would later become one of the most mythologized chapters of the MUSIC rollout, giving birth to tracks like Meet Yo Maker, POP OUT, ON B5, and DOCTOR, all of which pushed his sound into darker, more industrial territory.

More than a recording location, the cave became a symbol of an artist isolating himself to rebuild his creative language. Every leaked song, unseen photograph, or forgotten video from those sessions only adds to the mythology of an era that many fans believe never reached its full potential.

When Freddie Gibbs traveled to Russia for a tour, his promoter gave him an AK-47 assault rifle to keep at all times.

Terrified of getting caught and ending up in a foreign prison, Gibbs asked what he was supposed to do with it. The promoter simply waved off his concerns and insisted, “No, no, no. You are ‘Gangsta Gibbs,’ you need to have this.”

Gibbs ended up carrying the military rifle with him everywhere he went for the duration of the tour. by @headuptwin

There was a time when people laughed at Young Thug because they couldn’t understand what he was saying. They treated his voice like a mistake instead of realizing they were watching someone rewrite the rules in real time.

Thug was never obsessed with perfect pronunciation or making every bar immediately understandable. He treated language like texture. Sometimes a melody carried more meaning than a sentence ever could.

Looking back, it’s hard to imagine modern rap without that approach. What once sounded alien slowly became its own language, adopted by an entire generation of artists who stopped treating vocals as something that simply delivers lyrics.

Maybe that’s why lines like “But I never told her that I wanna be with her…” hit differently. With Young Thug, it was never just about what he said. It was always about how it made you feel.

Visual Study: Album Covers Designed by Virgil Abloh 💿

Before redefining fashion, Virgil Abloh was already reshaping the visual language of music. Long before Louis Vuitton, he was building worlds for some of the biggest artists of his generation, treating album covers as cultural artifacts rather than just packaging.

His approach was instinctive, playful and fearless. Whether it was minimalist typography, heavy use of symbolism, or deliberately unfinished compositions, Virgil constantly challenged what an album cover could look like. Every project felt like an extension of the artist rather than a signature stamped by the designer.

Many of these covers have become defining images of the 2010s, influencing not only music, but fashion, graphic design and internet culture as a whole.

Let me know if I missed any and which cover was your favourite.

Correction: Virgil Abloh served as creative director for Long.Live.A$AP. The album cover photography was shot by Phil Knott, with design development by Joe Perez / DONDA.

football has always been a huge part of justin bieber’s life and now he’s performing at the world cup final 🏆

before all the sold out tours and the records, he was just a kid who loved this sport like many of us and even after becoming one of the biggest artists in the world, nothing really changed. whenever he got the chance he was playing or even training with pros like that time he was in Barcelona’s training.

even neymar once said he could probably play professionally 😭

now him performing in the World Cup feels like a circle moment for him!! by @headuptwin

The Whole Lotta Red era felt bigger than the album itself.

For nearly two years, fans were living off snippets, leaks, rumors, fit pics, and rare appearances. Every photo, every producer tag, every low-quality live recording became part of the rollout. The anticipation grew into its own ecosystem.

When the album finally arrived in 2020, the reaction was divided. Some people loved it immediately, others hated it. But that tension is part of what made the era memorable. It felt like a genuine shift rather than a safe release.

Beyond the music, Carti introduced a completely different aesthetic. Vamp imagery, punk influences, black-and-red visuals, distorted performances, and a new vocal style. It wasn’t just a sound anymore, it was a world.

A lot of artists influenced the rage wave that followed, but Whole Lotta Red became the moment where everything crystallized. Looking back, people often talk about the music, but what they really miss is the feeling around it. The uncertainty. The leaks, theories & sense that anything could happen next.

That’s what made the WLR era so special.

Frank Ocean is one of the few artists whose influence only grew through absence.

In an era where artists are expected to post constantly, explain every move, and fight to stay relevant, Frank did the opposite. He disappeared. No endless interviews. No daily updates. No algorithm to feed. Just silence.

Somehow, that silence became louder than most careers.

Every blurry photo, every rare public appearance, every tiny update instantly becomes news. Not because he’s trying to stay relevant, but because people genuinely never stopped caring. Very few artists can disappear for years and still dominate conversations the moment they reappear.

Frank understood something most people don’t: mystery creates value. By refusing to give the internet constant access to his life, he turned privacy into part of his identity. His absence never felt like inactivity. It became an extension of the art itself.

In a culture obsessed with being seen, Frank Ocean proved that sometimes the most powerful thing an artist can do is simply disappear.

RAPPERS & THEIR LABEL LOGOS 🔠

Whether it’s the minimalism of Playboi Carti’s “00pium” or the intricate typeface of Young Thug’s “YSL,” logos have only become more important as rap has grown.

Logos have helped define generations of artists and become the centerpiece of many rappers’ brands. They serve as simple ways to show you’re signed to a label—like how Jay-Z handed out Roc-A-Fella chains—or as creative assets, like the way Lil Yachty’s Concrete logo was incorporated into the video for “Another Late Night” with Drake.

Logos in this post:
Playboi Carti - 00pium
A$AP Rocky - AWGE
Travis Scott - Cactus Jack
Young Thug - YSL
Lil Yachty - Concrete Boys
Drake - OVO Sound
J. Cole - Dreamville
Kendrick Lamar - pgLang
Ye - GOOD Music
Snoop Dogg - Death Row Records
Jay-Z - Roc-A-Fella
