Last night Bryony Matthews shared her story of traumatic brain injury after an e-scooter accident through story telling, song writing and singing. A powerful, insightful and beautiful performance. So much of what she powerfully shared echos what we hear from our community. Listen on Spotify and remember you are not alone. by @headway_nz

Acceptance after brain injury isn’t about giving up or “getting over it”. It’s about finding a way to live well alongside the changes, and that can take time.

This month, Keith Woods (Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist) joins us for a short, practical talk on what acceptance can look like, and how people and whānau can start working towards it.

Thursday 22nd October, 12.30 to 12.50pm, online. Grab your lunch and join us.

What a day at the National Youth Health Conference.
Schools from across Aotearoa came to hear about concussion support in schools, and the kōrero afterwards said it all. The need is real, and schools want practical tools.
Thanks to the conference committee for having us, and to Freemasons foundation for funding this mahi. taken in University Of Waikato, Hamilton by @headway_nz

Our community tells us it can be hard to find a sense of calm and focus after brain injury.

In June, we collaborated with registered p[sychologist and friend of Headway, Olivia Bloom, to deliver a Lunch+Learn on exactly this topic.

If you missed it, or need a recap, you can find the recording along with these helpful resources on our website under our Services.

Teens have the most concussion claims - and we know that many never get their concussion diagnosed or lodged.
Headway NZ is in schools supporting nurses and staff to recognise and respond effectively to concussion. We are collaborating across the space to understand and reduce the barriers to concussion support and care. by @headway_nz

Join him for a special screening of Avengers: Endgame with the added Doomsday scenes at Takapuna Beach Theatre, Thurs 24 Sept, 6pm.

E-scooter riders are more likely to end up with a brain injury than a cyclist.
Cyclists have to wear a helmet. E-scooter riders don't.

More doctors and researchers are speaking up about it.

We're been advocating for change. Because right now, the safety rules haven't caught up with how many of us are riding. by @headway_nz
