My optimistic hope for humanity during times of crises, a letter to you:

During my deep emotional trauma healing process, a sudden global social warfare has struck down my hopes in humanity yet again, which was one of the very core things I was trying to heal in this journey.

“Humanity has failed repeatedly, what is the point of trying to contribute back into it? I’m going to be taken advantage of by the same society I’ve tried to help! On top of that I’m still struggling myself!”

Oh you don’t even know how long ive been internally battling this thought. I’ve started losing trust in everything that I’ve once depended on, including my personal and institutional relationships. Leaders, mentors whom I once thought had their interest in the struggling people but hurting/turned their back at the time of need.

The skepticism and cynicism continues to boil beneath me everyday about my own understanding of what I’ve truly loved about the world, and the environment that I’m living in.

I eventually allow myself to hide away from the world until I can embrace myself whole again. To embrace the continuous suffering, yet dangerous highly selfish world again.

What a privilege for me to finally see the world with genuine people I’ve met to prove that humanity does still exist at times of global struggle. That few that are sacrificing their comfort lifestyle to share the truth, their loving embrace with stories, basic aid, and art. But more importantly, a listening ear to their suffering.

So here I am trying to pay it forward, in little ways where I voice my opinions yet still maintain my peace. It’s not much, but I share my knowledge and experiences with high hopes that the person reading this can continue fighting for humanity in their own small ways as well.

We’ve survived so much as a human. An imperfect, weird, awkward, socially triggered, battle scarred, average human whose trying to get by. To get out of bed each day. The privilege to keep learning about ourselves and the world around us. To have a story to tell someday to the lost and confused growing generation with much potential. That’s the future I’m fighting for. What’s yours?

Thoughts to consider post-election, & what to consider for the near future:

While I don’t claim to be a thought leader in politics, every single person has been affected in some level.

As a form of inspiration in the current social-political movement, Ive observed that the community brings back stories of ancestors, and figures that have fought from previous movements. These stories/quotes, remind us that there were people before us whose given privileges that we have now….. A reminder that we should continue to fight for the present future.

Since the election results have been up, and prior, some leaders have also shared free resources to hold space for the grieving and healing process.

I’d also suggest looking into workshops from non-profit organizations in your community that can give new tools and guidance on how to contribute back into the community you feel the most impactful to.

Last but not least, the fight is long from over…. I know our community is fed up at this point.

🥰🙏

May there be more days of celebration, healing for all of us who’s been affected by this election, past events relating to violence/natural disasters, & all levels of corruption.

May we find the strength again to empower one another, remember how far we’ve come, and fight for what’s yet to come.

But … come to think of it, there is a future that can be good too. I have things that I’m really grateful for about the society we live in. I hope you’ll find your reasons too, someday. ❤️‍🩹

I may not have much power or knowledge to hold space in matters like these, but being able to contribute back to someone or a group of people who needs my voice, is what keeps me going at times like this. by @healthyartforms

Real heart to heart conversations w/ @paperthinflowers by @healthyartforms

When understanding about why someone (friend, family, strangers) has done something to hurt you, or others… the answer is this:

Are they acting out of character because they’re stressed? Overwhelmed? Are they saying things to you because they were confused themselves?

Before reacting with more intense emotions, ask them more questions, when both sides are ready to answer more truthfully.

Love is patient, love is kind. by @healthyartforms

“Your family was toxic, and you dealt with that for many years”

I never knew what family toxicity is, only until my late 20’s. I grew up very obedient and learned to unconditionally love people at a young age. Unconditional love? Even that term was not easy to understand because I had to PROCESS AND GRADUALLY ACCEPT that was what my parents gave me, despite not being able to properly raise or understand me.

“You were never grateful for your parents if you spoke of them this way. The dishonor and disrespect for spewing to social media only to make yourself look good” is either a thought that came out of my own shame/guilt or what my Asian American acquaintances would really think.

Family trauma first affects personally to the individual self, then it can be “shared” to our future generation, as well as present platonic and personal relationships if they’re not recognized. Generational trauma is seeped throughout history of struggle, poverty, and war. Maintaining a healthy relationship was barely a concern back to our families decades ago, because they were too focused on survival and putting food on the table.

So that’s where the social interactions, values, relationship expectations start to cause conflict between our current and older boomer/later generations. This is where the unresolved past hurtful words and actions were being exchanged between us and our parents. Until this day, entering 30 (in a few months), my mom still had not verbally said “I love you” in English, nor her own native language.

I had to teach myself how to love others around me, by observing how others have done it. Families that openly discuss conflicts in a calm manner on the dinner table. Families that hug and kiss each other after a long day, or the beginning of the day. To always be reminded that I’m beautiful and amazing for how little I’ve accomplished in life. Tell me, what is it like to be in a family environment like that?

What’s helped me heal is…. Remaining open to meet people and learn to give my heart out repeatedly until I can find the right people. I found my mom’s missing love from others. by @healthyartforms

My heart is still a bit heavy along with the AAPI community. Swipe left for resources that I’ve been using during the healing process.

@compassioninsgv Thank you once again for the livestream recording of the Monterey Park Candlelit Vigil

My feelings and thoughts that arise during this time is valid.

I want to kindly remind myself that I’m not “weak” for relying on something/someone else during this time.

Heal with grace & patience.

Live, love, laugh strong.

Appreciate those around…. Check in when ready.

It’s really hard to reach out for professional help during the holiday seasons, due to timing and budget. This is how I find the top most accurate, credible resources on mental health during the holiday seasons.

It’ll be all worth it someday.

GRIEF, LOSS, AND SEASONAL DEPRESSION IS REAL!!!!!

SILENCE FROM OTHERS DURING THIS TIME, DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN THAT EVERYONE IS ENJOYING THEIR HOLIDAY SEASONS!

Please, take care of YOURSELF first, before checking in with others.

Don’t run away from the pain.

Please….
You’re not suffering alone.

Call someone, a local free hotline, or a health professional if you ever need it. Government and non-profit funding is possible.

Talk to someone who you trust and know that you’re not the only one going through something. 100% guarantee that someone could relate.

You’re appreciated enough by someone out there who would hate to see you feeling like this.

Even BROKEN people deserved to be loved too.

You can pick up the last pieces of hope from the ground, within yourself.

🫂🥺❤️

I’m so grateful for these people who are talking about mental health during the holiday season: @mentalhealthamerica @trentshelton @asiansformentalhealth @mayleeshow @isami_daehn @together_estranged
