My review of the incredible @themarcford show the other night head over to @livemusicnewsandreview to read the rest and check out some video from the show @taffetamusic By Mark Kaye

Jun 10, 2023

I recently had the pleasure of attending the annual benefit for Pach outreach at the new Taffeta Music venue in Lowell, Massachusetts, where the talented guitarist Marc Ford put on yet another unforgettable performance. This was his fourth year playing for the event, and I must say that his set was nothing short of stunning and astounding.

Watching Marc Ford play guitar is truly a sight to behold – he makes it look effortless as if it’s an extension of his own body. His passion, precision, and creativity combine to produce a sound that leaves everyone in the audience in awe. It’s easy to see why many think that he is the best guitarist alive today!

When attending a Marc Ford show it’s hard to pick out a standout track as all of his songs are standouts both lyrically and musically. The shaking “Devils in the Details” from The Vulture LP put smiles on fans’ faces and had everyone dancing to the beat as well as reflecting on the lyrics.

It’s not just the technical mastery that stands out about Marc Ford’s performances; it’s the emotional depth that he brings to every song that makes it a truly unforgettable experience. He played effortlessly, bringing together elements of blues, jazz, and rock, captivating the audience and taking us on an emotional journey with every note.

“I’m Free” from his Holy Ghost album took on a new meaning for the fans that jammed into this most friendly new music hall. It was the first time these fans traveled from all over the country to congregate since covid locked down most venues across the world. The fans felt free to shake, rattle and roll as Marc and his band’s performance felt carefree and loose as each song took off to heavenly destinations. by @hearnowlive

50th Anniversary of Hip-Hop: The Rise and Revelation of Boston Edition -
From its humble roots to its current blossoming scene, Boston's hip-hop history is as rich as it is underrated. Reminiscent of its complicated past, Boston was often seen as a tough nut to crack for local hip-hop artists. Early years witnessed an overly aggressive atmosphere around national touring hip-hop acts that led to local clubs shunning bookings of local hip-hop shows. It wasn’t easy for up-and-coming artists in the Boston hip-hop space, and their struggle mirrored the city's own struggle, playing second fiddle to New York's dominant scene. -
New York basked in the constant spotlight, magnetizing rappers & DJ's who swapped fierce past struggles with a paper and pen, bringing forth a symphony of street narratives. Meanwhile, Boston emerged as the underground parallel, seeking recognition and acceptance, both within and beyond its city borders.
It was in this crucible of challenge and defiance that @edogpics Ed O.G. came into the picture. His 1991 breakthrough album, "Life of a Kid in the Ghetto," became the lighthouse for Boston Hip-Hop, offering an earnest and relatable portrayal of the city's unique narrative. Ed O.G.'s contribution elevated Boston's status on the hip-hop map, validating the city's genuine and burgeoning culture. -
Following on Ed O.G.'s footsteps, the iconic duo Gang Starr further rippled the wave with their third masterpiece “Daily Operation,” fusing jazz beats with Guru's distinctive rap style. Setting a precedent for the Boston hip-hop cadence, their massive influence led the way for others, including the likes of Mr. Lif and Slaine, who made their way to national acclaim. -
Now, the face of Boston's Hip-Hop scene wears a new look. Artists like @joynerlucasofficial, @bia and the rapidly ascending @millyz have brought Boston into an unprecedented hip-hop renaissance, drawing the global music industry's eyes to the city. These artists have shown that to prosper in Boston, against the scarcity of recognition or resources, is to truly beat the odds. They epitomize the spirit of perseverance. What would YOU do if you had an antique velvet couch, way too many candles, a witchy white dress, an abundance of 🌶️ novels to read, AND (in the words of @samheughan in The Clanlands Almanac - not spicy but worth the read) wait for it, a crisp fall eve? Obviously pile them all together and get to readin! These fantasies aren’t gonna fantasize themselves!

Grieving Adrian Emberley’s @billythekidx passing, I reminisce about our first encounter in 2010 at the now-closed Precinct Club in Somerville, Massachusetts. Adrian was an artist in every sense of the word. She was an actress (The Mayor of Rock N Roll-2015), an author (There Was an Old Monster-2009), a composer-music for the soundtrack “Die by the Gun” -2013) a painter and a Singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist - (Adrian Emberley & The Revolving Band, The Lady Comes First, Adrian Emberley:solo:, Mr Genius and the Robot Inventors) a fashion designer (whatta fuss!, and her own shop in Cambridge in the garment district), a music video director, a daughter and all around a positive vibrant rock ‘n’roll superhero.
Introduced to me by former local music icon Shoney Lamar, she approached me, asking to book shows, which I gladly did.
After her initial HEAR NOW LIVE! performance, she tearfully apologized for what I saw as a stirring set, missing just one guitar chord change during her set she thought she let me down and I quickly quipped “ Are you kidding me? I didn’t even notice it and that was an incredible set and you cannot leave here until you sign for me one of your 7 inch singles that I bought during your set” at which those sad tears turned to joyful ones. After that I saw her growth in many different artistic avenues and I always thought how the hell did she find the time to do everything. Every time we worked together it was an absolute highlight for me. Her endless support for other local musicians never went unnoticed she jumped into the scene dominanted by men and made it her own.
Adrian’s music transcend genres – folk, rock, bluegrass, jazz, blues, psychedelic, emo, and beyond. I urge you to explore her catalog and career as diverse as the artistic hats she wore daily. Onstage, she, like a pixie, defied expectations with vocal prowess and instrumental perfectionism. Her positivity and support radiated in all she did, embodying her mother’s attitude and a magical spirit. Cont. in comments by @hearnowlive

In a career marked by numerous singles, unreleased gems, and collaborative efforts, Ripshop consistently marches to the beat of his own drum. "INDIvisual" stands as a tribute to the present era, echoing a time when rappers delved into current events and addressed the world's challenges.
A seasoned MC with a history of battling and championing social causes, Ripshop’s extensive resume includes performances alongside icons like @officialbigdaddykane Kane, @edogpics , @akrobatikmc @master._.ace, @niceandsmoothofficial , @esoteric_mc and so many more. Rising Hip-Hop Artist @onyxwhiteofficial Unleashes Powerful Narrative in New Single "Anyone"
Boston, MA – 11/22/2022
Onyx White, the dynamic rapper hailing from the streets of Boston, drops a compelling new single titled "Anyone." In this raw and unfiltered track, Onyx shares his journey, shedding light on the misconceptions people hold about those striving for success and prosperity.
Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, Onyx's early life was marked by numerous trips in and out of DYS (department of youth services) intelligence overshadowed by involvement in street activities, including drug sales and robberies. At just 16 years old, he found himself wrongfully charged for murder, and tried as an adult, he endured a grueling 12 year prison sentence.
During his time behind bars, Onyx honed his rap skills and delved into scriptwriting, emerging with a renewed determination to pursue his goals and dreams upon release. Currently making waves in the industry, he is set to unveil a documentary by WGBH in 2024, detailing his conviction and prison experience. Additionally, Onyx serves as a scriptwriter for a prominent production company based in LA and New York.
