Cygnus in December:

This fall I've been working really hard to image things besides the galactic core. Now that it is completely below the horizon, I'm realizing that it's just as much fun to shoot other things too!

I took some me-time, and processed some photos tonight. Alaska's been a big change, and I've really struggled to bring myself out of the bush, and into the rest of the world. It's been a year since my last post. There are many reasons, but predominantly I don't feel like sharing my art when I would rather rage and scream about how our government lit the fuse of a powder keg decades, if not over a century ago, and we're about to see if the powder will still light.

I hope that everyone is staying safe out there.

About the photo:
Last week I woke up just before sunrise, and as I was somewhat franticly getting put together for work, everything began to turn magenta because the clouds were reflecting so much light. It was as if the sun got covered by a crimson filter.

I can't recall where I got the phrase: 'like a river of flame rolling across the sky' but that is the impression this left upon me.

This photo, unlike most of my art, never entered photoshop. It has recieved various curve stretching, minor color seperation, and dust removal. taken in Colorado, USA by @heartbeat_adventures

Winter is my favorite time of year. There are a lot of advantages with outdoor recreation. No crowds, easy food storage, late sunrises, but it adds a lot of complexity to travel. Roads become impassable, the infamous colorado snowpack acting like an unlit powder keg, longer hikes from trailheads moving close to town.

This photo was made on a scouting mission up into the Elk Range. I was on my skis for almost 8 hours and walked over 11 miles. Sometimes I wish that I could be a normal photographer going to the park for a senior shoot, but then I look back at what I've done, there are zero regrets. I'm out there pusing my self to the limit in order to create art that resonates with my soul.

Winter Hath Come:

I'm crossing my fingers still, but it looks like the first of hopefully many winter storms has come and gone. It's time for number 2, and the snow just keeps on comin!

I'm excited for some wet snow to bury the sugary crap from december, but before that happens, Avalanche danger is frickin scary!!

Layers:

Figure Ground:

I studied Gestalt Psychology last year, and it was very intriguing how the walls of this slot canyon leave you unsure which is in front of the other.

"Journey Through Time"

I have been wanting to use this sky for quite a while now. It began as a portion of a panorama, but when that failed to stitch, I didn't have a foreground anymore, until a few weeks ago when I was finally able to make this beauty! #nightscaper
