✨Advocating for Premature Babies✨
With every tiny heartbeat, these brave little souls teach us the power of resilience and hope.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Hello, I’m Deodata Torres, and alongside my amazing daughter, Ivanna Rosell, we are thrilled to introduce Heartbeats of Hope, our nonprofit project dedicated to advocating for premature babies in Laredo and across Texas. Ivanna, a NICU baby herself, was born at 31 weeks, and our personal journey inspired us to support these tiny fighters and their families, providing them with the resources and hope they need for a brighter future.

Join us on this incredible journey to make a difference in the lives of premature babies. Together, we can create a community of care and compassion. 💖

It’s always a bittersweet feeling returning to the hospital where Ivanna spent 45 days after being born at just 30 weeks—but we’re forever grateful to the incredible NICU nurses and staff at @ichoosedoctors. That’s why giving back means so much to us. This Mother’s Day, we’re spending our time visiting NICU moms to bring them love and joy. We also visited @laredomedicalcenter and are thankful to @alliesbirdproject for inviting us to represent the organization. ❤️✨💐 taken in Laredo, Texas by @heartbeatsofhopetx

Meet Milana V. Rodriguez – God’s warrior 🌟

Born at just 31 weeks and weighing only 1 pound 4 ounces, Milana entered the world as a tiny fighter. She spent 86 days in the NICU, facing every challenge with the heart of a warrior. From breathing support to learning how to feed, Milana showed us that even the tiniest human can have the biggest determination.🩷

With the unwavering support of her family and the incredible NICU nurses, Milana graduated from the NICU after almost three months, and today, at 2 years old, she is thriving and showing us what true strength looks like. ❤️‍🩹

Milana, you are a true inspiration, and we are so blessed to witness your incredible journey. You’ve taught us all the power of hope and resilience. 🌈

Thank you mom @tori.rmz for sharing a little bit about her journey.

Ivanna was born on June 29, 2012, at 8:39 a.m., at just 30 weeks of gestation. She measured 15.5 inches, weighed 1.250 kg, and spent 45 days in the NICU.

Today, thanks to God, she is a very happy and strong girl. Our little warrior, our gift from God. ❤️

Every expecting mother hopes for a smooth nine months of pregnancy leading to a safe delivery. Unfortunately, that wasn’t my experience. In 2012, I gave birth to Ivanna, who arrived prematurely. At the time, I knew little about premature birth or its causes. Due to a sudden spike in my blood pressure, known as pre-eclampsia, my baby was delivered at 30 weeks.

The nurses assured me that she was in good hands, placed in an incubator in the nursery. The next day, I finally got to meet Ivanna. As I entered the NICU, I saw her from a distance; she was no bigger than my forearm. Her tiny ears, nose, and feet were so delicate. The mix of anxiety and relief I felt each day she was in NICU is hard to describe. I knew she was a fighter, and I was determined to embrace motherhood regardless of the challenges. I visited Ivanna daily. She fed every two hours, and during those moments, I bonded deeply with her, speaking to her and feeling a powerful connection, as if she was responding to me in her own unique way.

Thanks for reading a little about our story🩷

A full term pregnancy is 40 weeks and prematurity is a term for any baby born before 37 weeks gestation. While not all premature babies experience complications, being born too early can cause short-term and long-term health problems. Generally, the earlier a baby is born, the higher the risk of complications. If you deliver a preterm baby, your baby will likely need a longer hospital stay in a special nursery unit at the hospital. Although the exact cause of preterm birth is often unknown, there are some things that can be done to help prevent it.

Risk Factors
• Prior premature birth
• Multiple pregnancies
• Diabetes
• Being underweight or overweight before pregnancy
• Chronic high blood pressure
• Uterine or cervical problems
• Lack of prenatal care
• Smoking
• Alcohol use
• Less than six months between pregnancies
• Poor nutrition

How to lower your risk
• Get prenatal care early on
• Go for regular dental checkups
• Work with your health care provider to manage or control diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes
• Quit smoking and avoid other drugs and alcohol
