Baby miyawaki forest 🌳 day one 💖 this forest took me 3 years and 11 months to bring to life. Originally meant to live at the exit of @heartoflosangeles.official homed now in an even better space where the community can visit and access it any time @grandpark_la Thank you to everyone who came out to plant. The tribal elders who shared their stories and songs with us. These forests are about reclaiming nature in urban spaces, they're scientifically proven to offset climate change, lowering temperatures, attracting biodiversity, and reconnecting us with nature: which is proven to improve both our physical and mental health. This forest is composed of plants that are all native to Los Angeles and includes white sage, elderberry, and ceremonial plants of the native tribes that cared for this land before it was colonized. It might not look like much now- but this forest, with care, will grow rapidly (ten times faster than nature on its own) under the miyawaki method. I'm still processing that this is complete and now lives @grandpark_la 💖 special thanks to Isaac, Tongva tribal member for his song and for planting the very fist plant in the forest the sacred white sage. Next Saturday we finally plant the miyawaki forest in DTLA that took me 3.5 years to bring to life. Planting takes place at Gloria Molina @grandpark_la with an after celebration and art show @hellostrangerla art curated by @elcantogallery snacks from @pezcantina come thru and celebrate this historic forest with us. Friday night @heartoflosangeles.official we came to repair our half lit purple and encountered so many people enjoying the art while we were there. I forget all the time just how incredible this creation is since Im rarely downtown to see it myself. This project is an ongoing labor and cycle of love and stress, but it was so great to be able to experience in real time just how worth it and loved it is. 🫶❤️🌈 #heartoflosangeles #LA #❤️ by @heartoflosangeles.official

Super fun night at the rainbow last night. 📸 by @_2planez_ I think this is the first shot to capture the rainbow in the road. Before the tunnel was installed my producer was repeatedly warned that it wouldn't light the way I drew it up and said it would. All the neon OGs kept saying it would not shadow down the walls and it would only glow at the very top where the actual neon was. We even had a mandatory clause in the contract with the installers and fabricators that they would build it but not be liable when it didn't glow the way I said it would. There was no way to test the work, it was either trust the experts, or trust myself. I was really nervous that they would end up right, but I chose to trust myself and to trust my vision and the shadow experiments I had done at my studio with other works. When we lit it up it surpassed my drawings. The rainbows bled much further down the walls than I had even drafted and at just the right times they even fill the road....Moral of the story-- not everyone will see, trust, believe in, or understand your vision sometimes, but that doesn't mean it's not possible or viable.
