Sometimes I look back and think, what in the world were we thinking?!

I started Heart of Sugar Bakery in January 2020, and things took off faster than I ever imagined. Before I knew it, our house had turned into a bakery! Between decorating, packaging, and delivering orders, I was completely overwhelmed.

Then COVID happened, and I had a crazy idea. What if I opened a production bakery? Not a traditional storefront, just a place to decorate cookies, package orders, and have customers pick up.

In May 2021, we got the keys to our little space on Rosemont Road. The only problem? It needed EVERYTHING! We practically took it down to the studs, redid the electrical, plumbing, lighting, and built an entire kitchen. Looking back, I still can’t believe what we took on. Maybe we were just bored during COVID!

After months of renovations, we finally opened our doors in October 2021!

That first year was a blur. I honestly had no idea what I was doing running a bakery. I just hoped we’d make it through the first year.

And here we are, FIVE YEARS LATER!

Who would have imagined that a family cookie recipe we made once a year at Christmas would turn into all of this? That same almond vanilla sugar cookie recipe, passed down through generations on my mom’s side, is still the only recipe I use today!

Heart of Sugar continues to grow, and it’s still just me decorating every cookie. I’m so fortunate to have family and friends who are always willing to jump in and help when I need them.

I truly couldn’t have done any of this without them or all of you who continue to support my little bakery.

Five years on Rosemont Road! What a crazy, wonderful adventure it’s been, and I’m so grateful we took that chance! 🤍

Some cookies take a little extra time to decorate, but the end result is always so worth it! I absolutely love how these little rattan rattles turned out. The woven basket detail takes some patience, but I just love the texture it creates! 🤍

Celebrating Baby Tylman! 🤍

I absolutely love the soft, earthy, neutral tones of this baby shower set! From the sweet little teddy bears to the textured details, this was such a fun set to create. I also love that they’re waiting until Baby Tylman arrives to find out if it’s a boy or a girl! What a special surprise! 🤍

Decorating this Montana mountain range cookie for my daughter’s engagement set 🤍
This wet-on-wet technique is something you have to move pretty fast with so the icing doesn’t dry while you’re building up the mountain range scene. This was my first time trying something like this, and I actually really like the way it turned out!⛰️

This engagement set is extra special to me. 🤍💍

Last weekend, my daughter Abbey got engaged to Cody in Montana—and yes, I was the crazy mom who flew across the country to be there! It only happens once, right?!

Their proposal took place in one of the most breathtaking settings, just as the sun was beginning to set. It was absolutely beautiful. 🤍

I had to include a few of their engagement photos throughout this video because the moment was too special not to share.

For their engagement party with friends in Nashville, I brought a little piece of Montana into the cookie set. I included mountains, the sunset, and other meaningful details inspired by their engagement and the beautiful place where they said “yes.”

I’m so excited for you both and can’t wait to see what this next chapter brings. Congratulations, Abbey & Cody! 🤍
