Kitchen Counter and Backsplash

Sometimes things just come together beautifully! For this project, I knew I wanted Quartz for the countertops and Porcelain for the backsplash. Porcelain comes in a thinner cut, so it is easier to use as a slab backsplash. The challenge was finding a Quartz and a Porcelain that matched.

Thanks to @msiseattle (@msisurfaces) I found exactly what I was looking for. The wonderful thing about design is that there is almost always a way to find the look you are trying to create - this is where having an Interior Designer is so important!

People are often surprised to hear the countertop and backsplash are not the same. I can’t think of any better compliment.

A focal point.

My office. This is one of my favorite rooms in our whole home. Every single inch of this room was intentional. And all created around the rug.

I saw this rug when we were very early on in the building process. As soon as Natalie posted it, I just it needed to live in my office (if you’re looking for a vintage rug @foundhomeshop is your place!). I had a vision for the space, but finding the anchoring piece brought it all together. It turned out even better than I could’ve imagined!!

A Glimpse.

So unbelievably fun to see our project from the air. Three years ago, the first time we set foot here, we felt a surreal amount of peace.

Three years ago our family was in a significant amount of turmoil - not only was it 2020, there were a number of other challenges we were navigating all in regards to trauma response. Feeling a sense of unexplainable peace, deciding to move forward with this purchase when it didn’t logically make sense to was a step of immense faith. And we’re so grateful we did.

When people come here for the first time they mention the same feeling of peace we had the first time we were here - and that is something we pray never changes.

Also, a glimpse of our sweet farmhouse we’re currently living in.

Give me all the fall!

Also, this is your friendly reminder to take a deep breath as we step into a very busy time of year. It can feel like a lot of pressure to have the perfect decor, tablescape or porch. May your home be filled with decor and items that bring you joy and delight.

I love keeping decor personal - our selves are filled with family photos, an antique radio from my husband’s grandfather, a beautiful vintage vase and a game of Scrabble! (Shout out to whoever decided to create these ‘book’ board games!). True confession - the landscape art print and frame are both from Amazon. 😬

What are you most looking forward to in this season?

A home can be modern and still feel warm.

For this space, we balanced clean architectural lines with warm wood tones, soft upholstery, natural textures, and layers that make the room feel collected rather than overly designed.

Because beautiful spaces should still feel like places you want to live in.

A splash of color can change everything. 🤍

This soft blue pantry was designed to feel like a little jewel box tucked just beyond the kitchen. Unexpected, charming, and just bold enough to make you smile every time you walk through the door.

Because sometimes the most memorable spaces aren’t the loudest ones. They’re the ones with a little surprise waiting around the corner.

A white kitchen was always the vision, but never one that felt cold or emotionless.

Warm woods, aged brass, woven textures, collected pieces and layers of natural materials brought warmth and character to a space designed for real life.

Because the best rooms aren’t just beautiful to look at. They’re beautiful to live in. 🤍

What’s your favorite kitchen element?

Sunday Stills (on a Monday).

Moments from the week:

1. Inspo for a project (source unknown, please tag)
2. Birthday cheers with my people.
3. A dear friend opened Daily Threads. If you’re local to Tacoma, please go visit! @dailythreadscc
4. Soaking up the last of summer
5. My hydrangeas in our back yard bloomed…but not in the front. Love this flower so much!
6. This concrete wall is my LEAST favorite part of our home (it was a major issue during construction. It’s for our deck.) The ivy is finally growing in, I cannot wait for this wall to be covered. What I really want is Jasmine, but I was told it wouldn’t work. I may still try it… by @heartthatbuiltme

Invest vs Save

These are big questions when building or remodeling. Knowing the areas that need and deserve the investment vs the areas cost-effective options will work beautifully is a big help.
