It’s been two weeks since the news hit us all about the passing of the mighty Cronos. I’m doing my Venom binge-listening tonight to eulogize the man. Black coffee and Black Metal. Another metal pillar fallen.

Released forty years ago on this very day! Nuclear Assault’s debut album “Game Over”. For my money, it’s the greatest example of New York City crossover thrash ever committed to tape. Primitive and punky without a single second of mercy from beginning to end. I’m also impressed by some of y’all’s collections of this album. Some of you have over a dozen different versions. I only have this original Combat pressing. Whatever version you have, give it a birthday spin!

Released forty-two years ago on this unholy day; Bathory’s mighty debut self-titled album. With tinny, cold guitar riffs that sound like charred ash, vocals that shriek as if they’re coming from a mummified corpse raised from a crypt and an atmosphere so dark and foreboding you’ll want to have a priest on speed dial before you drop the needle. The monochrome goat on the album cover is the Rolling Stones tongue of the metal world; patched and painted onto more vests and jackets than possibly any other image in heavy metal. The twenty-seven demonic minutes that make up this record are as iconic as they are seminal. There isn’t a lot that can be said about this album that hasn’t been said in the countless celebratory reviews of the last four decades, but nonetheless, this album is Luciferian lightning in a bottle. Put on a bullet belt, spit some fire and give Bathory a ceremonial spin on its birthday. Hail Quorthon, you are the G.O.A.T.!

The Monday Vocal Cover - Toxik’s “World Circus”. Mike Samders’s vocals on this album are unreal. Next Toxik cover shall be something from the “Think This” album. What song would be a good choice?

The Friday Vinyl Versus! Today we have two of our favorite uncs of the ‘80s; Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne. We’re putting Alice’s “Raise Your Fist and Yell” against Ozzy’s “No Rest For the Wicked”. Prime era Kane Roberts against fresh faced Zakk Wylde. Which album are you choosing?!
