Proud of this Bruiser, we mentioned that we were looking to fill any spots this weekend in any travel teams playing in Missoula, and we were fortunate enough to have Ember get picked up by the Southwest Stars out of Belgrade.

We’ve come quite a long ways from her sleepy beginning days in Arlee Wrestling to her last few days with Mountain Man Wrestling.

Our family attended 3 tournaments in Great Falls to finish out the wrestling season this weekend, Greco-Roman (not sure if anyone even calls it that anymore) Modified Folkstyle and Freestyle. Our little Bruiser placed;

🥇1st Greco
🥇1st Folkstyle
🥉3rd Freestyle (so close to the triple crown!)

Enduring a mid tourney fire alarm, a last minute weight cut in 27 minutes and an increasingly nasty illness, she managed to go 6-1 on the weekend, Kayla and I have seen soooo much improvement with her wrestling but more importantly, we’ve seen a huge improvement in her work ethic, dedication and attitude overall, along with a budding passion for this sport- after all these years of being in the sport, she’s finally starting to actually like it.

I am truly excited to see where Embers wrestling journey will take her, and am grateful that the Mountain Man Wrestling program is here to help her along the way. I attribute a large part of this shift in her outlook to her coaches, especially Jacen Petersen, Logan Torgison and Jame Petersen, who are not only supportive on the mat but are evidently holding her to higher standards than she herself would like to adhere to 🤣 and expecting more than she is giving. The technical support has always been abundant with these coaches, but the emotional support from them over the last few months has been amazing, and Kayla and I are very grateful.

Thank you coaches, friends and family for helping make this a successful year, and we will see you all next season. by @heathenboy7261

Just a few more words about the day.

During tonight’s promotion, people may have noticed I had these two roll together at the end of the session, Anthony’s final roll was with Joey, a slot some may notice is usually reserved for the highest belt or a black belt, the Professor or Coach. When Joey was promoted, I had him roll with Anthony during his final roll as well. I have a few reasons for this.

After Justin left on his adventures, and we first started Neon Belly, we were shopping around for a place to train, and Shep helped us secure the Fitness Centers in Ronan and Mission. This transition phase was new to us, and everyone was more than willing to lend a hand.

But two people that really stuck out to me at this time were Joey and Anthony, who regularly attended all classes no matter where they were, set up and cleaned mats, and even taught classes a time or two. More importantly these two were in competition training a large percent of the time in the beginning, and they more often than not had to train with each other when days wore thin and attendance was low.

Joey was always ready to train hard, rarely tired out (even if he looks tired - he’s not) and never complained. Anthony is truly a game competitor and surprised even me with his willingness to train very hard and do absolutely everything I asked him to do. The work these two would do when I asked was inspiring, and they will always have my respect because of it. I’m not sure they even know that I hold them both in such high regard, but I feel the actions they took when we started this new jiu jitsu journey have bonded them together in a way that to me is unmistakable, I see it even if they don’t.

Jiu jitsu amazing tool that creates so many great moments in our lives, and one of the greatest honors it has created for me is letting me coach these two amazing human beings.
