Why are black owned farms important?

African Americans have the lowest life expectancy due to many reasons. One of them is lack of access to resources including food. Nutrition is the basis of a healthy, thriving community but black communities, have an increasing amount of food deserts. Ridden with fast food chains instead of grocery stores. This health concern directly affects black lives on top of the stress of discrimination. Of course, everyone knows it’s best to eat locally but with black farmers owning less than 1% of farmland in America as opposed to 95% white owned farms, it’s important to support Black farmers! The number dwindles with each season because black farmers are consistently losing money from their produce getting docked down due to discrimination or they can’t afford to grow at the capacity of others. They make $40k compared to $190k of their white counterparts. They also have to battle loan officers for less money than white farmers and MORE. Here is a compiled list of black owned farms to support. First two photos are farmers markets in Chicago! I encourage you to do more research about food deserts in your local community, it is another way to save black lives. #blackownedbusiness #blackowned by @heather.wip

#blackouttuesday is about sharing the messages of the black community by amplifying THEIR voices. Nelson Mandela has said that education is the most powerful weapon we can use for real change. These are children’s books that discuss race and racism. by @heather.wip

So I know this is going to sound like I made this up because it’s also a promotion, but I honestly had a bad day today. I didn’t realize I skipped a day in my notebook so I did it today and it helped put things into perspective. by @heather.wip

Found out a really cool thing about silicone through this project. It can hide the cuts I’ve made to hold the photos. And with the silicone I’m using, you don’t even need to worry about it tearing more with the cut because it has a high tear strength! U r really cool, silicone. I feel like @tecomatedesign lol btw, my campaign still has 12 more days! Check the link in bio for more (: by @heather.wip
