A Heavy Heart for Aiken

I’ve spent the last few days staring at my screen, trying to find the right words, but the truth is—there aren’t any. There is no sentence that makes this okay. There is no platitude that soothes the ache of seeing Pink Skies Over Aiken.

For those who don’t know why this hits so hard: I am a survivor.

I know the silence that comes with abuse. I know the fear that gets lodged in your throat, the way you learn to make yourself small, and the absolute, gut-wrenching terror of being trapped in a world that is supposed to be safe. I survived my own nightmare, but looking at what happened here feels like staring directly into a mirror of my own past.

It kills me. It truly does.

It’s infuriating to watch the way the world works sometimes. It is so sad that good people—people like me, who would do anything for their children—have them ripped away for absolutely no reason. And yet, when you look at cases like hers, where parents fail to protect their own, nothing is done… until it is far too late. It’s a broken system that seems to punish the people who care while failing to stop the ones who cause the damage.

I just wish I could have saved her. I wish I could have reached through time and been the person she needed, the shield she didn't have.

Because I couldn't save her, I am forced to grapple with my own survival. I fight hard every day to keep my own demons at bay. That is why I wrote my song, "Alchemy: Turn It to Gold." It’s my way of taking all that lead—the trauma, the hurt, the unimaginable pain—and refusing to let it be the end of the story. I am standing on the decision to turn that pain into something that empowers, something that creates, and something that might, just maybe, help the next one who is suffering in silence.

Javeayah, I want you to know: I carry your name in my heart and in the music I make. I wrote "Pink Skies Over Aiken" to hold the space that you weren't allowed to have, and it feels like a promise I'm keeping for you every time I sing those words. A tribute from the heart to a bright, beautiful soul. 💖☁️

Sometimes, words just aren’t enough to carry the weight of what a community feels when the unimaginable happens. When we lost little Javeayah Harris, a part of Aiken went dark. She was only four years old—a baby who should have been running, playing, and filling this world with laughter, not leaving it behind.

Writing this song, "Pink Skies Over Aiken," was my way of trying to process the pain we are all carrying. It was written for her, for her family, and for every single one of us in this county who looked up at the sky and asked "why."

I wanted to capture her innocence and the way she brought light into the world, even though her time here was cut so painfully short. This track is a promise that we won't let her memory fade. We are keeping guard of her legacy, holding onto the pink skies she deserves, and standing together in this healing process, as slow as it may be.

Javeayah, you were a beautiful soul that this earth didn’t deserve, but you are a bright light that we will never forget. Fly high, little one. You are safe now, where the pain can’t reach.

This one is incredibly heavy, but so necessary. 🕊️💔

For five years—ever since you passed, Becca—Vinnie had this vision. He carried these words, this pain, and this hopeful wishing of wanting to finally lay it all down on a track. But for years, it just never got to that point.

Being the person that I am, I couldn't just sit back. I felt like it was my absolute duty to make this happen for him, and for you. So I sat there and I listened. I listened to every single word, every memory, and every tear he poured out. I took all of that raw, heartbreaking emotion and we pulled this together.

We finally made it happen, Becca. This is your song. 🌹✨
