A Gift. 🌲

This morning.
A delicate lace bag showed up at my door.
The window to my childlike curiosity cracked open letting the light in.
Not wanting to rush the moment,
But so wanting to feel the weight of the moment.

For somehow I knew this gift was to mean so much more than what my eyes would see. It was the gift of connection, the gift of friendship, the gift of knowing, and the gift of community that I needed right at that very moment.

Thank you Eve—you are a gift to me.
Trees speak to me.
Your pottery speaks to me.
Thankful for you.❤️

Art Found Me…and Saved Me.

Some days I believe this with every ounce of my being and other days…I am not so sure.

Have I made a difference?
Do I help people feel things they are afraid to feel, don’t know how to feel or simply have forgotten to feel?

It’s normal to question…especially in a time when we are bombarded with visual chaos 24/7. Where does original art fit into this evolutionary shift of how we move through the world (or don’t)?

I won’t ponder too long, but today…I will.

Wild & Free.
Free to me is listening to the shapes and colors on the painting. Free to me is seeing the story that unfolds through these shapes and colors. A floral to you is so much more to me…

How a flower bows its head speaks so many words without saying one.

The bend of a stem tells of a life lived…the weight of the world both good and bad.

The layering of colors, shapes, edges mirrors my mind both beautiful and distorted.

Goofballs on the Road!

Met my dear friend, fellow artist and co-goofball @rickhamiltonart in Ogunquit, Maine for an art walk & talk!

As we walked the Marginal Way, we laughed about being an artist, we raged about being an artist and we ultimately came to the same conclusion as we always do—we can’t NOT paint! It’s in the fabric of our DNA!

As Rick gained inspiration from the sails of the beautiful boats, I was captivated the flowers, the irregular shapes of the petals depending on the angle I looked upon them and sounds the bees made working. It was a cacophony of color and inspiration!!!!

Me, too, Claude! 🌻

There is something about a single flower, a beautiful garden and an overgrown field filled with wildflowers that captures my attention—all my senses heighten.

“Embraced” is a painting that speaks to family, friends and community similar to a garden. All supporting one another, lifting each other up when needed, letting one shine while the other quietly waits its turn and so much more. The beauty of community parallels the beauty of a garden filled with flowers and so many colors.

A Walk Along High Street

All my work is rooted in feeling and story.
Before moving into my tiny home, I lived a year near downtown Newburyport. I walked the rail trail daily—that trail is priceless having given me endless joy and inspiration!

Some days, I would veer off the rail trail and wander down the cobbled red bricks of High Street up and over the roots of trees that have seen so much change in the city by sea.

The part of High that always caught my attention was right past State Street as you head into Newbury…Ginkgo Trees line the left side of the street and the shapes and buttery yellows of the leaves wrap me in warmth.

Another favorite part of the trail was the Butterfly Garden buzzing with bloom and beauty, life and lushness of foliage and color. It inspired me.

Those walks most definitely showed up in my work for my current show, I Bloom Despite.

I adore this painting bc it brings me right back to my many miles, many memories and endless amounts of inspiration.
