Heather and I have been working hard on our lowercase “h” homestead to create and grow as much as possible. Last year we had 450 pepper plants that we’ve turned into hot sauces, relishes, spice blends, and pickles.

We need your help take this pepper business to the next level. That includes getting our sauces ready for distribution as well as getting the fields ready for the new season. On top of that, we are looking to expand our operations to include cut flowers, a farm stand, and seasonal produce.

If you’re able to donate, your assistance will go far in making this dream a reality. Click on the link in my bio and we hope to see you soon this season! taken in Woodstock, New York by @heathermflesher

Marjorie Imogene Wilson Childrey, known to all as Granny. She was the simply the best kind of granny there was. We’d literally drive over a river and through the woods to get to see her, pulling up at 1803 Parkway Avenue, the little yellow house with the red steps and the big tree out front that hissed with cicadas all summer.

There were always butterscotch candies in the cellophane wrapper, sometimes in a glass dish on the dining table and sometimes right out of her pocket - ‘hoppin candy’, she’d call it. Her family was her greatest pride - with a gallery wall of cousins that would leave us wincing in embarrassment if we’d let too much time go by without sending her an updated photo to replace the older one in the frame.

When Pops was still with us, he’d hold court in his reclining chair, with a yorkie in his lap and the Braves blaring over the tv. After he’d passed, anyone could sit in his recliner, but it was still called Pops’ chair and his medals from WWII still hung over it.

The little yellow house was indeed little - no more than 750 square feet, but Granny somehow always made everyone fit at Thanksgiving. How - I’ll honestly never know, but the kids table remained the kids table, even after the kids were young adults and toting kids of their own. The assignments for mains and sides rotated, but everyone always asked Granny to make a chess pie and jam cake and her dressing made of white bread and cornbread. It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving at Granny’s without them.

Some summers we’d spend extended time at Granny’s without our parents - helping her with her tomatoes and cucumbers and taking walks around the side of the house to admire her peonies (which she always pronounced pee-OH-nees). We’d make friends with the neighbor kids, Michael to the left and Rachel to the right, and spend hours walking up and down Parkway Avenue or running across Hatcher Lane to get a soda. Pops would take us fishing, baiting a line with torn up hot dogs. We’d chase each other around the yard with cicada shells and run on the slip and slide and if we were good, we’d go to the Sonic drive in for a frosty treat. (Continued below)… by @heathermflesher

2025 was a YEAR!

Celebrated lots of cuties I get to work with @eliza.bistro

Saw the @philadelphiaeagles win the Super Bowl in Phl

@jakelesher_ taught @brittgenelin how to make pasta!

Visited my favorite littles in ATL

Began our journey as keepers of hens. Can’t believe how little Dolly Carton, Loretta Hen and Tammy Why-peck were!

@jakelesher_ and @bengodward built a coop for our hens

Had an epic vacay in Cape Cod with my best girls aka the dirty giners!

Had many friend visits but loved this sweet one with @geowithaneo

Girls laid the first of many eggs!

We harvested so many veggies, but especially lots and lots of peppers!

Had a very busy October but still found time for my happy place on the water.

Celebrated 2 years of @eliza.bistro with an epic dance party!

And leaning into the beauty of the quiet of winter.

It’s been a very hard year in so many ways, but looking back there were many more moments of joy and gratitude! Hoping for more of that in 2026! by @heathermflesher

It’s a new chapter for the Leshers! Meet Dolly, Tammy and Loretta, our little flock. The girls have been home for a few hours and everyone is warm, chirpy, eating and drinking well. Dolly is clearly at the top of the pecking order, Loretta is curious and clever and Tammy’s just along for the ride. taken in Saugerties, New York by @heathermflesher
