Meet Traffic Jam Mosquito, a Netherlands-born, Amsterdam-based DJ whose musical journey started with playing instruments, curate Spotify playlists at house parties and a €15 DJ controller in Buenos Aires. What began as a way to crossfade songs soon evolved into a curiosity for mixing and layering electronic music.

Now exploring the world of minimal and hypnotic techno, Traffic Jam Mosquito builds percussion-driven sets that move between genres and complementary sounds. Inspired by nights spent dancing for hours and getting lost in other DJs’ selections, their approach is all about paying it forward: creating the kind of musical journey that makes you lose yourself on the dance floor.

Pietro Campo an Italian DJ and producer, currently based in Amsterdam, where he’s studying Electronic Music at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Moving between different styles, blending old-school sonic elements with newer ones, Pietro doesn’t want to be defined by a particular genre.

‘’I got into DJing when I was 11. I was deeply into Daft Punk and Giorgio Moroder’s sound, and I remember seeing a picture of a young Thomas Bangalter behind the Technics. I asked my mum what it was, and she told me what was this job. From that moment, luckily the internet existed and I started researching everything about the figure of the disc jockey. Two weeks later, I asked my parents if I could do it too, so they took me to one of Rome’s oldest record and gear shops, Goody Music, and asked if they could teach me. I started taking lessons, and I immediately fell in love with the craft of DJing.’’

During the Demo to Release program, young and emerging producers who were ready to take their first real step into releasing music were guided by professional producers from the industry. Across a series of guided sessions, selected artists refined their sound, transformed demo ideas into finished tracks, and gained practical insight into how the music industry works around a release.

We asked Polli Panda about her experience during this HEATWAVE program.

Today was the kick off of our Demo to Release program. A group of aspiring and starting producers coming together to listen to each other’s tracks, give feedback and hear their work in a club. It was amazing to see this group of different personalities coming together. We are beyond excited to start this process with each and every one of them 🔥

In the coming weeks this diverse group will get to know all the ins and outs of producing through guided sessions with the goal of releasing a track on the IsBurning label. Stay tuned!

This week’s HEATWAVE mix is by @dot5.project 🔥 DJ and Producer DOT5 was born in Switzerland, now based in Amsterdam. His musical journey started with the piano, but through experimenting with his own interpretations and compositions, he gradually found his way into producing (electronic) music. From there, he discovered dance music and DJing by experiencing nightlife culture. Not only the music, but also the spaces and people fascinate him. Over time, he realized that DJing was an art form in its own right.

His sound has evolved a lot over the past year, going from more mainstream sounds to what he now likes to interpret as minimal, with influences ranging from deep & tech house to techno. DOT5 found himself liking tracks and sets that combine stripped back functionality with warm and moody touches, letting the selection dictate the energy. Less is more is a term he tries to adhere to not only in DJing, but also while producing.

Last week we gathered at @thesocialhub.netherlands for the RA: Unlocked crash course for aspiring and upcoming promoters. A day full of panels and talks with key figures in the nightlife of Amsterdam and beyond. From communities, marketing, booking and promotion and safer spaces, we covered many topics surrounding club culture, events and the dance floor. Seeing this diverse group of people as the new generation of promoters was truly inspiring.

A big thank you to all the speakers sharing their stories and insights within the nightlife industry and a special shoutout to @resident_advisor for organizing this amazing day.

dj pookie …IsBurning 🔥

dj pookie is an Amsterdam based DJ who’s been living her life with headphones glued to her head. As a dj, pookie has gone through many sounds to try and find what she likes to play. She’s torn between sexy & cunty techno, and percussive dark groove. Irregardless of what she plays, she loves to share funky sounds, some lyrics, and at times, random screeches (you’ll get it when you listen to her set).

Last Saturday our Mix Series participants gathered at @amw.fm for a technical workshop guided by @merel_helderman & @nancy_goreng

From diving into Rekordbox to discussing different techniques, this day was a crash course about the ins and outs of DJing. In the coming two weeks all participants will be working on a mix with a chance to release on the IsBurning SoundCloud in the coming months. Stay tuned!

Jolle is DJ blending jazz, trance, ambient, and video game soundtracks, weaving together contemporary club music, pop culture references, and unexpected sonic fragments. For him, the best sets are the ones where rhythm, stillness, and moments of high energy can coexist.

Jolle participated in the Heatwave Mix Series talent program by IsBurning, learning all the ins and outs about creating a mix and navigating Rekordbox.
