It’s the 50th Anniversary of the Heatwave of 1976. Future heatwaves are likely to be more extreme. News coming soon.

It’s been the hottest summer since records began and Fossil fuel emissions are one of the main causes.

Andy Burnham don’t ignore Ed Hawkins and the science! The UN confirmed this week that Global heating will hit at least 1.8C, and there are ‘no good outcomes’.

We need to cut emissions by 40% by 2030 and instead they’ve gone up. The next twenty years are going to be a rollercoaster of extreme weather. How much more extreme it gets is down to you.

We are ALL relying on your leadership right now.

Earlier in the summer I presented a figure showing how a comparable weather event to the summer of 1976 would be experienced in a warmer current climate.

It would be 3-4°C hotter, with London hitting 38°C.

Yesterday, that is exactly what happened. by @heatwave76to26

I spoke with @owenjonesjourno recently about the withheld Joint Intelligence Committee (MI5, MI6, MOD, and more) report on food system pressures, and more.

I mentioned that it makes the point that "a wholesale change in consumer diets would be required" Full link to the 15 minute chat in the bio. by @heatwave76to26

40 years of lies and greenwashing from the fossil fuel giants has led up here.

While Europe battles catastrophic extreme heat and wildfires, Shell announced $9.84 BILLION in profits. Will we tolerate this and stick our collective heads in the sand?

Andy Burnham talks of a ‘pragmatic’ approach to new drilling. That can surely only mean zero drilling, vast investments in renewables, our grid systems and insulation!?!?

Plus Immediate RENEWED support for the @fossilfueltreaty @stoprosebank and @plantbasedtreaty ! Now that’s a pragmatic response to this crisis.

If you can no longer tolerate this, comment Pragmatic below for ideas on how to help create something better!

We are the Majority and we want action.

We won’t watch the devastating wildfires and endure the extreme heat and stay silent.

89% of us want bolder action from our leaders. 89% of us want a safer, fairer environment for all of us.

We’ve seen the spoiler alert. We know we don’t have to depend on oil and gas. We demand change.

Let your leaders know how you are feeling in the comments!

None of this is okay and this is just the beginning!

It is awful Monty.

Our children should not be shouldering this fear, because of the actions of a fossil fuel industry wilfully denying and delaying action.

These should not be the words of an 11 year old. But it’s now so hard for kids not to see and and be truly scared about heatwaves, wildfires, droughts and floods that they can see happening around them.

We all have such an incredible stake in this. It’s time to protect what we love and build something better, while we still can!

It’s time for the adults to step up and get involved. Join us at @parentsforfuture_uk and help bring a fair, but swift end to fossil fuel extraction.

💚 Follow Monty’s suggestion and drop Andy Burnham a message in the comments!

Huge gratitude to Actor @fehintibalogun for reading Monty’s letter at the Heatwave 76-26 event and using his platform to consistently support a better tomorrow for all kids! His personal response to Monty will follow.

I had the privilege of reading a letter from Dave to his grandchildren, Daphne, Avery and Pippa, at the Heatwave 76-26 event.

Like many grandparents, Dave remembers the Heatwave of 1976 as an aberration. At the time, he knew nothing about climate change, even though scientists working for fossil fuel companies were already informing their bosses that it was happening and would accelerate over the coming decades.

Now, in 2026, the climate crisis is here. Dave is doing everything he can through Parents for Future to help give his grandchildren a better future, because hope lives in action.

I was honoured to be joined on stage by @sadielizafrost , who read Steph’s letter to her baby, Alice, and @fehintibalogun , who read 11-year-old Monty’s letter.

Their letters will be published next week.

“We need people working at all kinds of different levels. Starting a community garden in your community, that’s tackling the climate emergency and the nature crisis. Running for your local council is another way - taking action is the really key thing, and taking action with other people.” 🌍🙌🏻 @nataliebennettgreen by @heatwave76to26

Europe is baking in heatwave number 3. But what’s really making our blood boil is the fossil fuel industry celebrating being able to continue with business as usual for over 50 years without our leaders saying ENOUGh already!

They won’t stop until we all come together to make them stop. So if you’re even a smidge concerned about this heat and what’s to come, pop a message in the comments including the country you are in and we’ll share a couple of links to ways you can contribute to creating a safer, fairer tomorrow for everyone.
