while january felt like an extremely slow and gloomy month, february has so far been the opposite. this month has been flying by, and i'm so glad that the days are slowly becoming longer again. we've had two snow storms in a single week, and while i've never been one to love this season, the past few days have only reminded me of the winters of my childhood. we haven't gotten this much snow in many years, so it definitely felt nostalgic!! as for reading, i recently finished jane eyre on audio and i absolutely loved it. i'll be writing a review for this one soon!lastly, i hit 1.3k followers and while it's only been 5 months since i started this account, i have found so many wonderful people i'm now so lucky to know. thank you, and thank you for listening to my ramblings, whether about books or life or just random nonsense (even if i'm just shouting to the void). it really means the world <3 by @heavenmadeflesh

an apprenticeship or the book of pleasures love, intimacy, and the act of becoming human is similar to a tide returning to shore, inevitable and slow. it's the softness of water, that push and pull and it's possibilty to wear down stone. an apprenticeship or the book of pleasures is short story about arriving to yourself, slowly, fearfully, and bravely."there was no point in hiding it: the truth was she didn't know how to live." lispector's words are inescapable. i found myself folding into these pages, and seeing myself in lori. the hiding, wanting, resisting joy out of fear it might collapse. i've built cathedrals too, and stood outside, convinced my own happiness might be a trap. oh how we're our own worst enemy!! an apprenticeship or the book of pleasures is a story about surrender. to fear, to love, to the self you've been circling around for years. you resurface from the words within these pages, and i will be taking these words with me forever!! by @heavenmadeflesh

i picked up i love you, i love you, i love you by laura dockrill, and i loved it, i loved it, i loved it!!! nostalgic, bittersweet, and so so funny, i love you x3 is a love letter to girlhood and the 2000s, the era of friendships built on landline calls (begging your parents to get off the phone so you could use it), turning up at your friend's place without an appointment (can we bring this back?), questionable fashion choices, and all-consuming crushes.when ella meets lowe as a teenager, she immediately decides he's the love of her life, yet promptly puts herself in the friend zone, convinced that it's much better than potential rejection. ella is constantly anxious, always overthinking, and self-conscious in the way only a teenage girl can be. why was being a fourteen year old girl so embarrassing?? the spiralling, the overanalysing, thinking that everyone else was handed a guide to life that somehow skipped you. she's hilarious and exhausting at times, but she's also the type of friend i'll always be rooting for!beneath the will they/wont they of ella and lowe's relationship, which spans years and is increasingly frustrating (i say this fondly bc why do all my favourite love stories have this kind of emotional stalemate and miscommunication??) is a beautiful coming of age story. ella's love for lowe is woven into how she sees herself, and over fifteen years we watch her navigate friendship, family, heartbreak, love, and grow into someone capable of loving herself just as much.life keeps pulling ella and lowe in different directions, yet they always seem to find their way to one another, whether in unfamiliar places, or back to their old neighbourhood in london where it all began.i love you x3 is for all my nostalgic girls who feel everything too deeply, love too much, and have spent far too long apologising for taking up space! by @heavenmadeflesh

somewhere in northern italy, revisiting underlined words in my favourite bookan unnamed narrator, living in a remote, alcoholic seaside town, is certain she's a mermaid, and is in love with a veteran thirteen years her senior. the sea is her reckoning, the very thing that took her father, but also her refuge, "i'd rather be subject to the ocean's laws than the laws that apply to young girls trying to become women here on dry land."the seas by samantha hunt is a story of otherness, of coming of age, grief, and of longing. it's a story about the relentless pull of a world that promises freedom but might drown you first. so beautifully weird, confusing, and all-consuming, it left me completely still after my first read, and again during this reread. i love this story so so much (i had to share it again). weird girl lit will always be loved by me! by @heavenmadeflesh

chapter 23 in my favourite city!!this was supposed to be my 23 books for 23 but even on a train with ample time to narrow the 53 books on my goodreads shelf called "when i die bury me with these" down to 23, i realized that i actually can't do that and don't have to lol! despite the fact i read some of those books 10+ years ago, i still hold them as close to me as i do the books i've fallen in love with more recentlybooks and stories have made up who i am for a huge chunk of my life, even my username is an ode to one of my favourites, sunburn by chloe michelle howarth (which inspired me to make this account almost two years ago now!!) so i'm forever grateful for this little corner of the internet and all you lovely people who i get to share this love with!!! <33 by @heavenmadeflesh
