POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
After six years of script editing, development consulting and reading for film, television, games and the stage, I’ve finally decided to take my fate into my own hands and go freelance as a Script Editor and Consultant full-time. 🔥

I have over a hundred five-star reviews that vouch for me from my time at @scriptup_ - but I’m always looking for more work. If you know anyone, who knows anyone, working on a screenplay, treatment, novel, play, video game narrative or just a story that needs dedicated notes from someone who has a proven track record: I’m your guy. 🫡

I’ve put together a site that has just about my most meaningful accomplishments on it. Take a look (in my bio) and please share it with anyone you think might be relevant. I’m already keeping busy, but I absolutely live and breathe storytelling, so don’t hesitate to reach out. 🙏

Thanks to everyone who has backed me personally and all the wonderful clients I’ve worked with over the years. One of the greatest joys I know is seeing you all develop and grow. ❤️‍🔥

Happy Edge Day, everyone. Today is the fourteenth I’m celebrating. ✖️✖️✖️

This year, there’s been a lot of death. I’ve been reminded clearly about the very mortal nature of reality: robbing it of the romantic and leaving behind the relics of people I loved. I think about the absence of people who influenced me. I think about the life and loss of a relative to drugs. I think of the way we pass on teachings and passions to others. I think about my turn for it all.

When I reflect on Straight Edge, I contemplate the independence it took, in a time of fear, to grasp a decision that drastic. And through the years of struggle that followed, remaining steadfast, I remember those that spoke to me with a kindness and appreciation for what I had done. That was both those in their own struggles with substance, and those who felt that I had done something bold in going against the grain. It has taken me many years to realise the truly positive impact of what I did for myself.

And I think about the impact of a life in total: the ripples in a body of water, or the wave that builds to its peak and crashes down, receding to whence it came. It’s no surprise at all that today is about the living and what we choose, here and now. But it’s also about the way those decisions cascade outward, into the lives of others, setting them on a new course. The way others can set examples to us, or demonstrate the power of a decision - to make it clear that we can change for the better, here and now.

And that’s all we have. The choice today, while our hearts are still beating, to make a positive change. If I can make even an ounce of the impact that my loved ones had on me before they left the earth, in my Straight Edge, it will have been worth so much more than the identity and resolve it has given me over these years. To face the world’s challenges, head-on and clear-headed, for ourselves and everyone that relies upon us.

I have to believe that we can all change for the better and that, sometimes, that all starts with the example we can make for others.

Happy Edge Day!

I first saw @burnermetal when they supported Deicide 2 years ago, but I got whacked pretty hard in the head and don’t really remember them. So it was such an honour to tell vocalist Harry that a few weeks ago and discuss their new album NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE US.

But because we used up two zoom calls worth of free minutes, we also chatted about the “never enough” limits of the human condition, the awesomeness of people called Matt, Gregg’s pasties and shaking people’s hands, and one of my favourite words: nihilism. And how Burner isn’t nihilism for the sake of nihilism.

It feels like the world is decaying in front of us, and we might have missed our chance to build a better future despite all the learnings we could’ve taken from history, but Burner asks: have we? How can we get out of this? Are humans doomed to be in this eternal violent cycle or… can we change?

I didn’t particularly enjoy releasing our new album.

Over the nine months we spent since our last show: finishing up what we felt was our best ever work, and preparing for it to enter the wider world, I found myself becoming deeply disillusioned with the “industry” side of things (for lack of a better term). The race for hype wore me down, turning my optimism about the music and how it would be understood into pessimism, dogging me in a worsening fashion till halfway through release day.

I know a part of this is just down to my failure to judge things more positively, but I can’t deny the very real exhaustion of putting an immense amount of time, effort and money into something that can be as easily consumed and dismissed by others as a chocolate bar. There’s something nihilistic about the selling of the music that I have found immensely frustrating, especially when sandwiched between the exaggerated (but necessary) emphasis of violent, kinetic language that promises the “heaviest band ever” to an audience that has a thousand similar artists to choose from. I don’t want to disparage the efforts of those that did that for us, I truly am grateful for them, but I have to acknowledge my perspective on the rat race.

We live in an age of artificiality: pre-packaged reality and social platform-ready emotion with a commercial air. All of it designed to capture and hold our attention. It plays on a lot of volatile emotion, agitating and provoking. And I’m right here, trying not to play the game while saying how I feel, in my own corner.

So I can’t even blame the most cynical of folks turning away from what I’m trying to do with my bandmates in creating music that says, or makes you feel something. But it’s been lonely and difficult in longing for understanding. Playing our release show, as @kierancwhite captured wonderfully here, I finally felt that earnest connection I had been longing for. I experienced it in every fibre of my being, for fifty minutes: a sense that all of this is real, and it matters. But it’s in the room, with you and me.

If you can, please come through to our shows this month. I’m in need to shake your hand. Thanks, love to you all. ❤️‍🔥 taken in Soho, London UK by @heavyxeyes

New for Kerrang!

I sat down with @heavyxeyes aka Harry Nott of @burnermetal last week to talk all things No One Is Coming To Save Us.

We talked about the writing of the album, about the weight of *everything* feeding into making this their heaviest work to date and about getting those incredible features on just their second album.

I want to thank Harry for his time, openness and honesty; I don't think I've ever experienced such vulnerability and willingness to get into the weeds of these topics quite like he did, and I'm super proud to have worked on this one.

Give this a read at the link in my bio and Stories, spin No One Is Coming To Save Us (Kurtz is the best song of 2026, btw) and let's band together, because we've gotta force the change we want to see by ourselves.

Yesterday, my final biological grandparent Brian was buried with my paternal grandmother Valerie. I found the brief role I played in emptying their home deeply unsettling. Uncovering their memories of me and the depths of their love and care over the years, the commemoration of not only their passions but also the lives of those who preceded them, was deeply moving, unearthing the loss of my grandmother in 2012 as if she died yesterday.

Suddenly, all around me, the walls of every home feel hollow. And the immediacy of conscious reality, as a realm of the living, strikes me. The urgent need for the present to be relished and for sentiments to be realised is thrust upon me: to speak now, clearly - to hold on to one another closely and not take a thing for granted. All of these ideas that are realised in the punishing, pathetic whimper of divvying up the remains of a life: of photo books, jewellery and mementos. Things that must go, but cannot stay - the beauty and love of an object evacuated.

That all of these relics of a life are carried to support some tangible sense of meaning and belonging - that there’s a home out there we can build that can keep us safe forever. But it can’t. One day we’ll pass out of this world and the things we leave behind might cause that same withering grief that I feel now to someone else. All of these ideas existed so firmly in my mind, but crumble in the motion of standing within a house that I grew up in, but never will again.

That illusory dance of an eternal love, scorned by the frailty of age and our decaying biology. All of it feels so brutally final in the reduction of what needs to be done. But it was real. It was here. I remember. For as long as I live, these things survive in some form. It’s all I can do.

I previously wrote about the impact my paternal grandparents had on me. But yesterday I truly felt that much of their lives was spent preparing to better the lives of those that followed them. I’ll carry that gratitude with me for the rest of my life.

I love you both more than words can say. 🖤 taken in York, Yorkshire, England by @heavyxeyes

LONDON, THAT WAS BLOODY BEAUTIFUL 😍

We’ve spent the day recovering from the absolute madness that was our record release show last night, celebrating our new album, NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE US - Honestly struggling to find the words to describe how much that meant to all of us 🖤

Over 9 months since we last took to the stage, we were itching to get back at it and you lot did not disappoint! You showed up in your numbers, packed the place out and brought some serious energy to the night, you made it every bit as special as we’d hoped, and we can’t thank you all enough for the support 🙏 Big love also to all who came and had a chat with us at the merch desk and picked up the new album, always such a pleasure hearing how much you’re enjoying the new tunes ✌️

Big up two of the best bands in the game @wornoutnoise and @beyondextinction for joining us on this special show, making the journey to celebrate and throw down with us, we love yous and can’t wait to do it all again soon 😘

Special shout outs to our boy @tyler_hdges and @atonalmusicagency for the hard work and believing in us, @actionpresents and @lowerthirdsoho for putting on such a sick night in this quality historic venue, and the don @mariosozos for mixing the show and making it sound hella chonky - Much, much love to you all ❤️‍🔥

Can’t wait to get back out there again in a few weeks on our full UK tour, come out and show London what’s up!

The second @burnermetal album, “No One Is Coming To Save Us” is out today through @churchroadrecords . Please give it a listen, share and purchase it, in some form, if you like it. 🖤

There’s a myriad of people to thank for this, chiefly @justinejones and @sammyurwin for their ever-steady trust in us, @lewjohns for bringing out the best in me for the performance, @miserytakeme for his unique vision, as well as our spectacular guest vocalists: @matthewkheafy @weepingxreaper & @joshsylosis - it’s a true honour to have you be a part of our work and I can’t articulate the depths of my gratitude. 🙏

I have found this album, in some ways, a difficult and deeply personal experience. Over the past few months, I wrote up a document that I’d consider an “afterword” for “No One Is Coming To Save Us”, which you can find a link to in my bio. I have been reminded repeatedly how frustrating it can be to try and communicate something meaningful through music like ours, but I won’t give up trying. If you choose to read it, thank you.

I hope that everyone can find something in this release that they can relate to, truly feel and hold onto, to take back out into the world with them. Thanks for backing us and enjoy it all while it lasts.

Love,
Harry. by @heavyxeyes

South London metal unit Burner already have the support of the biggest names in the game.

Signed to Church Road Records the band released their debut EP A Vision of the End in 2022, produced by Lewis Johns (Svalbard, Conjurer, Employed To Serve). Metal Hammer promptly named Burner one of their bands to watch, and their 2023 debut album It All Returns To Nothing cemented a brutal sound that pulls from death metal, hardcore, black metal and crust punk all at once. Now they’re back with their second album, and the company Burner find themselves in has jumped to another level entirely.

Burner’s second album, No One Is Coming To Save Us is out September 25th on Church Road Records.
