En ekonomisk messias

Kind of fulfilled a childhood dream and wrote about a new discovery!!! And a new species of beautiful “tiger cat” at that which made it doubly amazing for an avowed cat lover like me. Was such a thrill to talk to two of the amazing researchers behind the long process to find and name the Tilcayo. Sometimes journalism can really be its own reward 😻https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/9/18/new-bolivian-cat-claws-its-way-into-species-list-what-we-meow. August was all bodies of water and time with precious babes. Not exactly dolce far niente but some sort of dolce for sure. A few moments to pause… some respite, a few discoveries and celebrations! Hail Helios always and our great mother Thalassa in all her guises. Now if both of you could nudge the muses would be most grateful. by @hebehabib

Dearest L sent me these pictures of the first magazine I ever wrote for, which was edited by her and also the beloved @yosrasultan. I remember distinctly the giddy rush of seeing my name in print for the first time, followed by the absolute terror of wondering how the blurry, faceless public would absorb my writing. But it was more thrill than terror back in 2006 though there was also that odd young-adult dejection of what next, what am I supposed to do?

Twenty years later, here I am, ever deeper in this vocation, wondering how long I can continue to be a journalist as budgets shrink and AI devours. Like so many colleagues, I wonder if I should change careers give it all up and opt for one of the alternative futures I’ve considered, anything from Tarot reader to science communicator to Jungian psychoanalyst. But for now, I still want to trust that initial urge, that kindly spirit or spark that prompted me to begin, because it has led me to so much beauty (and terror) to conversations and exchanges at the heart of life and death themselves. Even if, nowadays, journalism often feels like the compression of fire into ice cubes- such a perplexing reduction, whereas earlier in my career it felt more like threshing wheat for bread: the production of real sustenance.

But I refuse to be morose about the future. The future has all the possibilities we grant it, with hope and honest, humble work -work we do for love of the other and for the love of this mysterious thing called the truth, which is not the same as fact and quite difficult to capture. Beyond all that though- wasn’t I such a cutie pie? 🤣 by @hebehabib
