Meet Sharon and Steven Hedger. The founders of Hedger Constructions.

Sharon and Steven met in Alexandra in 1986 as teenagers, and have been inseparable ever since. In 1998, Steven and Sharon founded Hedger Constructions in Alexandra, combining their complementary strengths to create the foundations of the business. Steven brought his expertise in construction and craftsmanship, while Sharon's strong background in finance, accounts and administration ensured the business was built on solid financial foundations. Together, they formed the perfect partnership delivering exceptional homes while building a company designed to stand the test of time.

Almost 30 years later, and they are still a dynamic duo behind their family business. Through 30+ MBAV awards, and an expansion to the Surf Coast and Melbourne, they have proven themselves to be reliable and quality builders, but not without the help of every single staff member, supplier or trade contributing along the way.

When we say family business, we really mean it. Steven's brothers, Bradley and Rodney are both involved through Estimating and Site Supervision, whilst Steven and Sharon's children, Isaac and Ellie, are both involved in the Project Management and Marketing of the company. Though it doesn’t stop at family by blood. We believe the suppliers, trades and our staff that have been alongside us on our journey are all part of our family. They are our backbone.

Steven and Sharon love every moment of the build process, but if you asked them for their favourite part? The people. Learning about and connecting with people, whether that is a new trade, a staff member, a client, an architect or simply a first enquiry. They value the stories and learnings of the people they engage with.

We hope you have learned a bit about us, and we hope to learn more about you.

Ridge

We are very excited to share this beautiful project. Every wing has been carefully positioned to create a different experience of the site, from quiet, intimate spaces to expansive views across the surrounding ranges. We are honoured that we could bring Studio Four's magnificent design to life, and that Shannon McGrath captured it so elegantly.

No two clients are the same, so no two projects should be managed the same way. In this video, Sharon and Steven Hedger share their approach to getting it right: understanding the people behind the project, building the right team around them, and designing homes that genuinely reflect how they want to live. It's a process built on listening first, building second.

Bourne

Take a deeper look into Bourne. Another beautifully executed Hedger project. An apartment is no easy feat, especially in the heart of Melbourne. Our Project Manager, Contract Administrator, our trades and suppliers, all had to strategically plan and work together to ensure a smooth process for delivery, construction and for our clients. After 30 years in the industry, collaboration is something we pride ourselves on, and without it, we wouldn't be where we are today.

Bourne

When craftsmanship meets clarity of brief. Our clients asked for a home that was as easy to maintain as it was beautiful to live in, the result is an interior where every material, fixture, and finish has been selected with intention. For those considering a similar journey, Bourne is proof that luxury and practicality can, and should, coexist.

Bourne

Introducing Bourne. A Melbourne apartment that doesn't shy away from intricacy. Designed with care, built with precision, and finished with materials that speak for themselves. Stone, hand-detailed cabinetry, French oak flooring and hand-loomed carpets come together in quiet, confident luxury. Smart automation ties it all together, so comfort is never more than a touch away. This is elevated Melbourne living.

Ridge

This custom build separates the wings for privacy and purpose, while a bold, unconventional footprint challenges the traditional home silhouette. Grey tones and natural timber carry through both the interior and exterior, tying the whole structure together as one cohesive material palette.

30 Years in the Industry

Through 30 years in the industry we have learnt that communication, honesty, loyalty and quality are the foundation for our business. We pride ourselves on these elements to successfully build homes and relationships with our clients, trades and suppliers. We have been with our clients through the lifetime of their homes, and we have relied on our 30 year relationships with local trades and suppliers to deliver Hedger homes.
