Alhumdulliah! I wrote a booklet of 7 poems and it got published by @wearemkiac!!

At the end of last year I began working on The Nur project, which is the third project from Stories on the Plate. Here, I collected stories from the women taking part and created poetry from 7 of them.

Working with artist Ruqaya Wajdi @simpletouchforyou who brought her expertise on Islamic Illumination Art the group of women worked together to create a masterpiece that will be showcased on Art in the Park on Saturday 6th June at Campbell Park MK.

This has been an ongoing project for the last 6 months and to see the end result has been amazing.
Jazak Allah Khair on being on this journey with me and supporting my art and writing. Cannot wait to see where this milestone will take me. In Shaa Allah.

All praise to Allah swt who opened this door for me and allowed me to use my skills to help others around the community tell their stories.

My second Live Poetry Performance 🎤 - Rise.

I was honoured to be asked to write a poem of my choice for a Milton Keynes Networking group @wikibiznetwork and their RISE Event for International Women's Day.

I took the opportunity to write about women across the globe who are living in situations outside their control under tyrants and oppressors. Women and families who have no say when the West decides to act in wars and genocides against them for nothing other than the leaders egos and stealing land/resources. My aim was to bring home that life is a gamble and it could have been us instead of them as we did not choose where we were born. That we also are not free and allowing the leaders to destroy and attack women, men and children across the globe in places like Congo, Sudan, Falestine or Kashmir (to name a few) gives them the right to then enact it on to us at some point. So we all need to Rise up together to stop the atrocities happening for each and everyone.

This poem meant alot to me as it sent out a strong message - Politically, Socially and Globally. I am so glad that it was received, as there was not a single dry eye at the end and the response was immense with the conversations I had after.

The sky is beautiful, but the reality beneath it is heartbreaking. 💔 Beautiful clouds fill the sky, while tents fill the land with pain and suffering. Yet, despite everything, we still hold on to hope and dream of the day this war ends, when we can return to our homes and land and live the peaceful life we deserve. 🇵🇸🕊️

Alhumdulliah another year around the sun and what a year it has been. 🍉

I started out my last birthday by saying I want to make a change in my writing and my poetry, before my next birthday came around. Allah swt is great, with His help, I have been able to do more in my writing side than ever before. I have stood on stages and platforms I could have dreamed off and had conversations with people to actually create change!

This year has shown me that there is a place for my work, my activism, through the Art and writing I do. It allows me to be active from where I am as getting into London and joining protests all the time can be difficult for me.

Jazak Allah Khair to all of you, some I have met in person and some I know from afar. You have all stood by me on this journey so far, and I pray you continue.

Live Poetry Performance 10: 🎤 Izzat Ki Khitcheri Translated. Part Two.

The second part to Septembers Patchwork Poetry event by @wearemkiac at @grandsultan_mk was my translated version.

As the theme was language, I wanted to show the audience how language can change when something is translated in English. From the sounds, the words, the feelings to even the meaning/understanding.

The feedback received was very interesting as the audience members who did not understand the language in Part One said that they understood the feeling through the emotion in the words and still resonated. However, they found Part Two more relatable as there was no language barrier. Yet the emotion still came through.

This poem is meant for conversations - important ones, one we should be having with our men, our boys in our homes and in public spaces. It is a cycle that needs to be broken in every culture as some hide it better than others.

Update from Yahya's @yah50395 Chuffed Campaign. Alhumdulliah, we reached $1400 and Yahya was able to get a new tent and all he needed with it.

Jazak Allah Khair to all of you who have supported us in this campaign. As Yahya kept telling me, have faith and trust in Allah swt, He will always come through and help. With His help everything fell into place in the last minute and we were able to give a family a new lease of life in time for Winter.

Please take a watch of the video (it is alittle long) but Yahya sent across some photos of the new tent being built which I have included.

In Shaa Allah, I am now in conversation with his elder sister who also needs a new tent for her family. So when the campaign is ready I will share and we would appreciate all the help we can get for her, her husband and their beautiful 4 little girls.

HCK x COLLECTION 2 is coming together, Alhumdulliah.

Finally completed my first piece, Noor - Light, from digital design, transfer, carve to print. It only took me a crazy amount of time to get to the final product and it's still not 100% complete. Especially as this collection is one that allowing me to apply new techniques in every piece.

I am still working on the paint detailing at the moment, will keep you all updated on stories. But that is the beauty of traditional art, you can keep working on it till you feel it is perfected with all it's uniqueness on each individual piece.

These three will be part of my own personal collection, then will start to experiment on different materials etc as I work on the next lino piece for the collection, Urooj - Rising.

Live Poetry Performance 10: 🎤 Izzat Ki Khitcheri. Part One.

Septembers Patchwork Poetry event with @wearemkiac at @grandsultan_mk was themed upon Language. So when better of a time to take out a poem in my multitude of lauguages.

Culturally we are Punjabi speakers, but I grew up watching Bollywood so took upon some Hindi, added English into the mix, potentially some Kswahali words, Arabic and Urdu. Honestly its a major mix and on a normal day I end up speaking/adding words from all these languages to create my sentences. Somehow, they just work together and my message gets sent across to the listener.

'Izzat Ki Khitcheri' is a play upon two things. 'Izzat' meaning Honour and 'Khitcheri' meaning mishmash. I wanted to use my mixture of languages to talk about an important subject and from the perspective of a South Asian Muslim. The idea of Honour abuse and patriarchy overtaking religion and creating their own systems to then destroy the world is in every culture in some format.

So when listening, I ask you to think about your own cultures and how all of this sits. Because it will be happening there and these conversations are very important to have.

This piece is a two piece. After performing this version I did an English translated one. Again asking the audience to let me know how they felt and which one made more of an impact as it was a diverse audience.

I pray that these systems are broken down sooner than later, that using a fake version of religion gets stopped for men to destroy women's lives and that women can live freely and safely in not just the outside world but also within their own homes. Ameen taken in Milton Keynes by @heena.ck

Poetry Performance 9: 🎤 Approval.

Alhumdulliah what a busy month September has been that it's taken me this long to get to posting this piece I did in the first week of the month. It was such a wonderful evening at @decubamiltonkeynes being able to share my poetry at @pinkmondomeets Creative Meet as part of their Creative Showcase.

Picking a poem for a new crowd is always daunting as I never know how they would react to my work/themes. However, after speaking with @petrakereem I realised that the people attending would have a very similar stance. So I ended up writing 'Approval' the night before. None of my peices I had from my collection felt right and whilst making tea my head started spinning and words came together.

Approval is a poem about how we as Muslims are told to go-back-home, assimilate and integrate to fit in. I play upon the UK army adverts in the last part (let me know if you get it). Overall it ended up being a very interesting piece to write and perform. The audience loved it and I ended up having some brilliant conversations with many of them over the night.

Thank you again to @pinkmondomeets and @pinkmondomedia for inviting me and giving me a platform for my work. Hope we can work together again in the future.

My first art Exhibition and next event is coming up this weekend at @palestinehousefilmfest in @palhouseldn.

From Friday 11th September to Sunday 13th September find me and other amazing creatives showcasing their work from film to art. It will be a packed weekend at one of the best venues in Holborn.

I will have framed orgional artwork (displayed) to sell as well as Unframed orgional artwork.
