Heidi Miiki’s mesmerizing vertical dance performance “Extracts of Hope” evoked radical hope, dreams and rebellious optimism in dialogue with architecture and shifting environmental uncertainty in our world today.

The piece was one of the site-specific highlights of the Tanssin Aika festivaali or Jyväskylä dance festival, curated by my dear friend Veli Lehtovaara, when I visited during an autumn weekend on September 25th. 🍂

Despite the overcast and rainy day, Heidi’s calm gravity-defying acrobatics felt more like gentle movements of a mermaid tip toeing in the air.

Having seen Heidi perform a version of Hope indoors two weeks earlier I was even more moved with her ease and artistic expression, untethered from any fear or anxieties while seemingly floating through sweeping dance movements in high altitude.

Rakkaus

Joen Yö 2026 teemana on rakkaus.
