“Krasner and Pollock” at The Met begins and ends with Lee Krasner. In between lies the all-consuming story of her role in managing and promoting the meteoric rise of her tumultuous and unpredictable partner. While Pollock’s career took off, Krasner’s was largely put on hold.

The Met finally gives the “before and after Pollock” the recognition it deserves. Krasner’s early collages are fabulous, while her late works burst with movement, color, and vitality.

Jackson Pollock’s place in art history is sealed. What this exhibition makes clear, though, is that Krasner was his equal in every way.

“People Make Art: A Tribute to Melvin Edwards“ at Alexander Gray Gallery pays tribute to the life and legacy of sculptor Melvin Edwards and the relationships he cultivated with fellow artists, writers, educators, and activists. A brotherliness
existed between all of us,” he reflected. “If I needed to know something about tools, I’d call Jack Whitten. If he needed extra muscle every now and then, he’d call me.” This extraordinary exhibition brings together fifteen of Edward’s’ artist friends and collaborators whose lives were immensely enriched by his generous spirit.

“Father Country I Do Love You,” Taryn Simon’s immersive exhibition at the Guggenheim, is an ambitious attempt to trace the story of postwar America through the life of a single FBI agent. At once perplexing and fascinating, playful and terrifying, the exhibition is a monumental undertaking, filling the museum with meticulously detailed accounts of espionage, surveillance, and the lives of individuals shaped by war and political power.

Simon catapults the viewer into a dizzying constellation of photographs, video, sculpture, and text, weaving together seemingly disparate narratives to explore the contradictions embedded in American life. The result is both overwhelming and deeply compelling—a sprawling portrait of a nation shaped by secrecy, conflict, and the uneasy relationship between power and the individual.

September truly is the best month in the Hamptons. The weather is gorgeous, the crowds are gone, the farm stands have the best produce, and you can easily slide into a booth at Candy Kitchen.
