'Heinali and Saienko provoke us to linger at the intersection of the medieval and the modern, the elemental and the eternal; of the rural voice, the traumatic experience, and the mystical vision'Thank you, @pitchfork and Maria Sonevytsky. It's an exceptionally well written review, with a deep delve into the relevant context. by @heinalimusic

My new work commissioned by @themuseumofmodernart premiered today. It is called Aves rubrae, and it's available on their website. The link is in my profile.Explosions in Kyiv on February 24th 2022, halted my work on the new album Organa. An ideological successor to the previous album Madrigals, it carried on my practice of reimagining early music in modular synthesis, focusing on high medieval polyphonic compositions of the Parisian school and earlier polyphony.Organa, however, lived on as a backbone for my live concerts.I perform my music on a modular synthesiser. The way this machine is set up, or "patched", is based on the research conducted for the album, borrowing from medieval polyphonic techniques. 'Aves rubrae' is based on this patch as well. It was improvised and recorded in one take on my modular system. Like the organa tripla of the Notre-Dame polyphony, it features three voices, two upper voices (vox organalis) with florid melodies generated by the machine over the viscous tones of the lower voice (vox principalis).Unlike the Notre-Dame polyphony, composed to grace the most resplendent church celebrations, Aves rubrae takes an eschatological tinge. The 'Aves rubrae' ('red birds' in Latin) references 'Red Birds Will Fly Out Of The East And Destroy Paris In A Night' by Coil (which, in its turn, was probably influenced by Tangerine Dream). It's a homage to one of the most influential artists whose music shaped me during my teenage years. It's widely accepted that the name of Coil's composition comes from one of the apocalyptic prophecies of Nostradamus. Curiously, I couldn't find any mention of that particular line, or even a similar theme, in his texts. Perhaps, and more fittingly, it came from Balance's, Lewis' or Christopherson's own visions.I'm very grateful to Alex Halberstadt @alexhalberstadt and MoMA for the opportunity to resume my artistic practice. by @heinalimusic

UH FEST 2026artist of the dayHEINALI & ANDRIANA-Y. SAIENKOГільдеґарда (‘Hildegard’ in Ukrainian) is a unique reimagining of Hildegard von Bingen’s music realised by Oleh Shpudeiko, known as Heinali, an electronic music composer whose work extends high medieval polyphony and monophony through modular synthesis, and Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko, a singer practising authentic Ukrainian vocal tradition, highlights the physicality inherent in Hildegard’s visionary music, serving as a distant mirror to reflect, comprehend, externalise, and transcend wartime experiences.Budapest4 OctoberEvangelical Church of the Buda Mountains@uhfest @heinalimusic @yasiavmyla by @heinalimusic

Kyiv Biennial – Concert Week 🎶Composer and sound artist Heinali @heinalimusic (Oleh Shpudeiko, * 1985, Kyiv), together with vocalist Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko @yasiavmyla, (* 1997, Lviv), present ‘Гільдеґарда (Hildegard)’, a collaborative project based on the music of the 12th-century abbess and polymath Hildegard von Bingen (1098–1179). Moving between early music, modular synthesis, and vocal practice, the performance conveys a spatial and embodied experience, where low frequencies and sustained tones are felt as much as heard, creating a sensorial field shaped by the somatic experience of war. This concert is presented as a double-bill with a concert by Abdullah Miniawy @abdullahminiawyofficial – we recommend purchasing a combined ticket for both!ConcertHeinali and Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko ‘Гільдеґарда (Hildegard)’Wed, 08.07.2619:00–20:00 KW Institute for Contemporary Art, main hallCombined and single tickets available onlineFind more information on our website 🔗 link in bio._____________________#contemporaryartberlin #kunstwerkeberlin #kwberlin #kwinstituteforcontemporaryart #heinali andriana-yaroslavasaienkoImage 1: Heinali and Andriana-Yaroslava Saienko, Rewire 2025; photo: Maurice Haak.Image 2: Heinali, Unsound 2024; photo: Helena Majewska. I have no issues with someone training their LLMs on my works. I am not a Luddite. However, when the trained model is then used to generate income that is not shared with copyright owners, whether through royalties or music licenses, I do not see it as a fair business practice. This disruption is nothing new in the history of music: the invention of the printing press, the advent of music recording, then radio and TV, and, finally, the Internet and streaming, have led to renegotiations of what intellectual rights mean and how they should be compensated in the new economies formed by emerging technologies. The same process will happen with AI. As history teaches us, an artist will have no say in these negotiations. They will be led by the largest players having the greatest leverage. I just hope it happens before the music industry, as financially unsustainable as it has become for me and (I would venture to assume) most professional artists, entirely collapses. by @heinalimusic
