If you’ve ever wanted to own a piece shaped by fire itself, come to Hei Pottery — we now offer a wood firing service in Canada. The white flowing areas on this cup are not painted or hand-applied. They are formed naturally from wood ash during firing. As the wood burns, ash settles on the surface and, under high temperatures, melts into a natural glaze that flows with the form — creating patterns that can never be repeated. We fire using pine and mixed hardwoods. Different woods, ash buildup, and flame direction all influence the final color and texture — making each piece truly one of a kind. Wood firing service now available Starting at $65 per cup (high-temperature firing) First-time firing? Ask us about our introductory offer. For more details, feel free to contact us. #heipottery #woodfiring #ceramics #pottery #woodkiln torontoart handmadeceramics claylife ceramicstudio arttoronto by @heipotterystudio

During my visit to Florence, I had the opportunity to learn from an Italian artist with 20 years of experience in traditional Italian ceramic painting. Our time together gave me a deeper understanding of Italian ceramics and fresh inspiration to bring back to the studio. I’m excited to share that the artist will be joining us at Hei Pottery Studio next year to lead a workshop and share this beautiful tradition with you! Next summer, we’ll also be collaborating with artists from different countries to bring new ideas, techniques, and creative experiences to our studio. We hope you’ll join us! Workshop dates and booking details will be announced soon. #HeiPotteryStudio #ItalianCeramics #CeramicPainting #PotteryWorkshop #MarkhamEvents by @heipotterystudio

Every year, I make time to travel, learn more about pottery, and see how other artists work. During my visit to Hungary, I spent an afternoon with ceramic artist Ildikó Károlyi at her studio in Budapest. I loved the natural textures of her work, and felt a little envious of her way of life—a garden full of vegetables and herbs for tea, a much-loved dog, and a space to create. Ildikó generously shared how she makes her pieces, from shaping and surface textures to firing. I told her about our daily life and pottery classes at Hei Pottery Studio in Toronto. We had so much to talk about, and I left with new ideas and a new friend. I hope we can welcome her to Toronto one day to share her work and techniques with our pottery community. So grateful for everything I learned and the friendship we found through clay. #HeiPotteryStudio #Pottery #CeramicArt #RakuCeramics #hungarianceramics by @heipotterystudio

Every year, I make time to visit different countries, explore local ceramics and meet artists. This year, I’m travelling to Hungary, Florence and the Netherlands. While in Hungary, I visited my friend Robert, an antique collector, and learned more about Herend’s Victoria porcelain. We spent time looking at the hand-painted flowers, butterflies and gold details, and he showed me what to look for when appreciating these pieces. I learned so much from our conversation. Pottery is my work, but it’s also something I love. Wherever I go, I enjoy meeting artists, seeing their work and hearing about their backgrounds. From antique ceramics to contemporary art and painting, there’s always something to learn and something that makes me want to try a new idea. When I opened Hei Pottery Studio, I wanted it to be a place where people could enjoy making pottery and feel comfortable spending time together, chatting and making friends. These trips give me time to learn, too. I’m looking forward to bringing new ideas and techniques back to the studio to try with our students and friends.
